(( Central Chamber, Mysterious Structure, Gateside Dimension ))

The immediate emergency had been averted and they now had their science officer back. And yet, it was still a race against the clock. Though they had driven the entity out of Fenn's mind, it now had another target, namely the Kobliads deeper within the facility. They had to regroup quickly and pursue it.

Kovar: Considering what you have said, and its intent, we will likely need to find a way of neutralizing the entity. The level of harm it will inflict is far too great.

Even as he said it, he wondered how his compatriots would respond. It was no small thing to speak of killing. In fact, any Vulcan who adhered to Surak’s teachings held seeking non-aggression and peace in the highest regard. After all, it was the logical stance that sought the flourishing and cooperation of all beings. However, unfortunately, there were those times in which non-aggression was logically untenable. And this was one of those times.

Marshall: Agreed. We know subspace disrupts it. It needs a host to cross, so we have a window before it finds one.

Kovar: Yes, and our opportunity for action is limited.

Marshall: It used you to operate this thing. ::She gestured to the interface.:: Which means the building has systems we can use. Maybe some kind of security.

Marshall: Can you remember any of it? Sequence, symbols, what it was making you press when the grids went down?

Fenn: ::gesturing to various points on the holographic display:: Just that these points lock and unlock the cells.

Kovar: Anything more? I realize it may be difficult or unpleasant to recall, but any information will be essential if we are to assist the Kobliads.

Maezel closed her eyes and Kovar could tell that she was trying to remember with all her might. It seemed that she did recall something based on her grimace, almost as though she was about to be ill.

Fenn: I’m not sure what that was meant to do but I…

Before she could complete her sentence, the holographic display reconfigured to depict eight interconnected chambers linked to the turbolift, which led Kovar to surmise that they were looking at a map. Three pulsating orange markers occupied the lowest chamber, a likely indication of their own position. Two chambers above were two additional markers. One was grey and exhibited no detectable activity. The second pulsed at a substantially higher frequency than the others while retaining the same orange coloration. The significance of these distinctions remained undetermined.

Kovar: Interesting, based upon the information that we have so far it would appear that this display shows this facility’s layout. And considering the chambers here, it would seem that floor may have served as the facility’s brig.

Marshall: Response

Fenn: Agreed, it seems to be some sort of map. ::pointing to their chamber:: I’m guessing that’s us and those dots above us must be the Kobliads.

Kovar: Indeed, and I find the grey marker to be concerning. We do not have sufficient data to determine what either the colors of pulses mean, but I am concerned about the state of the injured Kobliad.

Marshall: Response

Fenn: The real question is, where is the entity and why doesn’t it show on here?

An appropriately astute question from their science officer. The lack of detection on equipment could potentially add another layer of difficulty to what already appeared to be an insurmountable task. However, they had no reason to disbelieve the entity when it said that the Kobliads were its next target. Given that possession or, the Vulcan stared intently at the grey marker, reanimation would further whatever goal it had, it was clear where they needed to head next.

Kovar: That is curious. I would hypothesize that this sensor array, though in a different dimension, is still calibrated for three spatial dimensions. And the entity appears to extend through additional dimensions, rendering it invisible to conventional sensors.

Marshall: Response

Kovar: That is still only a hypothesis, which I admit may be faulty based upon the data at hand. The more pressing matter at hand is determining the manner of containment that this facility’s operators achieved. Any insight into that might aid us the inevitable conflict ahead.
