((Gateside Dimension))

Tahna Meru couldn’t shake the feeling that something was watching her.

It was this place, cursed as it was. It reminded her, somehow, of the fables her father would tell her about the fire caves and their imprisoned pagh wraiths. There was no sun, no moon, no stars, just a shadowy burgundy sky that seemed to shift like liquid if she stared at it too long. Rocky ground that she could almost swear was moving, giant entangled vines like a forest…it was disorienting. At least her tricorder hadn’t given out yet, though it couldn’t point them back to the gate.

Ah well, that was a problem for later. One step at a time.

Gamoya had been able to provide the information they needed to catch her science team’s transponder signal. Meru pointed toward the vine forest.

Tahna: The transponder signal from the science team’s suits is pinging from over there. Can’t tell if it’s inside the vines, or behind them.

The vines were moving slowly, at least, for now. And they hadn’t seen any creatures yet, though one had seen them.

Where had that thought come from? Nothing had seen her team, not that they knew of. This place was already playing tricks on her, and they’d only been inside long enough to leave line of sight from the gate and the other teams.

Tahna: We could try going around the forest, see what sort of readings we get. Or we could try to push through the vines.

Meru carried her tricorder, a phaser on her hip, and a backpack filled with supplies. She grabbed one of the pack’s straps, shifting it slightly for comfort, and looked at her team. They’d been able to save so few of the civilians in their assignment on the other side…and frankly, Meru didn’t have much hope that this one would go better. How could the team that went through the Gateway have survived this long? She suspected they’d bring back little more than peace of mind for their families. But there was a chance they still lived, in this strange, haunted place, and they owed it to the team to try.

V’Lar / Pace: Response

Tahna: Do you get the feeling we’re being watched, or is it just me?
