Lox tapped the control to return the biobed to standby mode and took a step back, allowing Bryce to sit up. With the professional side of things done, including a gentle reminder to book in with the counselling department, it was time to talk, well, less professionally.

Loxley: I must admit, my curiosity is always piqued when I see another hybrid.

Bry got back to his feet and reached for his PADD, updating the checklists he had been working on before grinning up at Loxely.

Tagren-Quinn: Same. I think… you indicated that you are a specialist in genetics, right?

Loxley: ‘Specialist’ makes it sounds like I know more than I do, but yeah, that was my field of study. The plan was actually to go into biology and genetics before I switched to more practical medicine.
Tagren-Quinn: That's neat. I’d love to pick your brain on some things someday.
Loxley: Of course, any time.
Tagren-Quinn: The funny thing is, I didn’t really know I was a hybrid until I was about seven… or something like that. It’s a long story but I grew up in a human household so the whole El-Aurian thing was a shocker to me. I didn’t have any real interaction with El-Aurian family until I was a little older.

Lox blinked in surprise.

Loxley: Really? But then, I guess when you have no reason to question it, why would you?

He reached up to flick one of his pointed ears.

Loxley: I guess things were a little more obvious for me.

Tagren-Quinn: response

Loxley: It is surprising how different it is for everyone. My earliest memories involve being in and out of hospitals thanks to certain incompatibilities with my genetics, so I was aware before I really understood, if that makes sense? It’s actually why I went into this field of study in fact.

Tagren-Quinn: response

Loxley: I was brought up in a very Human household, too. ::he grinned:: It probably shows. There was a mix of Human and Vulcan upbringing at first, but that stopped and I’d forgotten a lot of the Vulcan stuff until I came to the Gorkon.

Tagren-Quinn: response

Lox hesitated, unsure how to phrase his thoughts. The discomfort he felt about the Vulcan side of things was something he wasn’t entirely able to articulate even to himself yet, and the feelings  that had been stirred up by the lessons he’d been having were going to take some time to figure out.

Loxley: Two of the Vulcans on the crew, Vorin and Alieth, have been helping me explore that heritage. It’s... not been easy.

Tagren-Quinn: response
