Pace: Ah! Here we go sirs, the simulation’s finally finished!

She shared the results with her team with the push of a few buttons on her console.

V’Lar: What does the simulation indicate regarding the flora's shielding mechanism, Lieutenant?

The doctor and the first officer looked over the data while Vesela did the same.

Pace: It looks like the moss utilizes traces of the metals, minerals, and a few polysaccharides just like we thought! Our hypothesis was right!

If this were Elaysia she’d do a backflip, but she settled for a grin to the two commanders.

V’Lar: A promising initial result, Lieutenant. While this simulation is highly instructive regarding the flora’s baseline biology, a single test does not constitute empirical certainty. Furthermore, the radiation emitting from the dimensional breach is unlikely to remain at a constant frequency. I would suggest we run concurrent simulations, subjecting the virtual biological model to randomised, high-yield radiological spikes.

Tahna: We should, but we don’t have infinite time for study. Run as many simulations as you can, quickly.

Vesela nodded and began setting up the simulations as fast as she could.

V’Lar: Lieutenant Pace, please establish a link to the Gorkon's main computer. With the additional processing power, how many concurrent simulations can be run?

Pace: Aye, sir. ::There was a slight pause as the link was established.:: It looks like… we can run two-hundred simulations in five minutes with the help of the Gorkon.

As long as they could transpose these results to be usable in the inoculant, it would be worth it. Now with the other simulations running, she just hoped they’d have enough time to save some of the patients.

Tahna: The Gorkon’s on standby to begin replication of the inoculant as soon as we have one.

V’Lar: Once the simulations have verified the shielding mechanism, I must still establish a method of safely duplicating it.

Vesela just nodded and looked back at her screen. A few of the simulations had been completed and she set the results so that they would update for everyone as they completed.

Commander Tahna moved over to the doctor once more. They began to whisper again and Vesela wondered how bad it was. She tapped her fingers against the workstation willing the simulations to go faster.

She couldn’t hear what they were saying, but somehow it didn’t make the pit in her stomach any lighter. She knew people were dying in the next room. Liquefaction couldn’t really end any other way, but that fact wasn’t comforting to Vesela and she was sure it was just as un-comforting to her fellow officers. The console beeped as a few more simulations were completed.

Pace: S-sorry to interrupt, sirs. The simulations are about a quarter complete now and are currently corroborating our hypothesis.

Tahna / V’Lar: Response

Vesela gulped nervously and looked back to the console.

Pace: I could try and start finding equivalent options from our universe to use in the inoculant if that would be helpful, sirs? I mean, nothing will be solid until the end of the five minutes, but having options may at least speed up the inoculant process, right?

Tahna / V’Lar: Response
