((Power Plant, Gibaria Outpost))
Walking down the narrow, dark maintenance corridor with the hidden door, Ayiana couldn't help but notice that the light and shadows playing across the area with their flashlights made the power conduits running the length of the corridor look like the vines from the labs. It was eerie. It didn't help that Ensign Kairis had decided to ask the two of them about the life forms each encountered.
Sevo: They are a mix of organic and metallic substances. My tricorder couldn’t make heads-or-tails of them. And they grow *very* fast. After the pulse attack, Neathler noticed one vine had grown a few centimeters in the moments of the attack.
Kairis: Response
zh’Tisav: If those are the plants, I’d hate to see the animals...
Sevo: We hadn’t encountered any fauna while I was up there, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there were any. I’d have hated to meet one.
zh’Tisav: What if they’re one and the same? They already move like animals…
It was a thought Ayiana had back in the labs. The vines certainly acted as one organism, especially when aggravated. For all she knew, they were just one part of a single massive entity on the other side of the gate.
Kairis: Response
zh’Tisav: We figured out the scientists were trying to use subspace fields to counter-act them. One idea was a type of attack, the other was more like a mobile panic room. I was called away before we could test them, so I don’t know if they even work.
Subspace fields? Would that work? Ayiana didn’t know enough about the life forms to think if it would. Maybe the scientists were on to something.
Sevo: Huh. No idea if it would work. Wish I could see the data.
Kairis: Response
Suddenly, Vylaa stopped. Ayiana saw her pull out her phaser.
zh’Tisav: The air feels different, I think we’re getting close to the core. Let’s tread carefully, we are in a bit of a bottleneck after all.
Ayiana took Vylaa’s word for it. She was far more sensitive to environmental changes than Ayiana was. Following the Andorian’s lead, Ayiana pulled her phaser rifle out, readying it.
Sevo: Would hate to be caught by those vines in here.
Kairis: Response
The light from their flashlights began to be supplemented by light ahead from an opening. It seemed they were nearing the end of the tunnel. Carefully, they made their way through and into a new room. It…was not what she was expecting. Actually, she didn’t know what to expect. Maybe it was what the engineers were hoping for.
The conduits from the maintenance tunnel exited and continued haphazardly into the room, which was dimly lit. There were no active lights; just that of emergency lights whose batteries would probably run out soon. Shining her flashlight around, she noticed the chamber was massive. Ayiana saw conduits and piping coming in from other holes and tunnels in the massive chamber. They all converged at the center into a large spherical device.
Sevo: Is that what I think it is?
zh’Tisav / Kairis: Response
Sevo: It’s a lot bigger than I expected it to be.
zh’Tisav / Kairis: Response
Sevo: So what’s the plan?
zh’Tisav / Kairis: Response
