((Transporter Room 1, USS Gorkon))

V'Lar: I am ready to proceed.

Taelon: As am I, Admiral.

Reynolds: Response

With everyone ready they promptly took their positions on the transporter pad.

With the transporter command given, she observed the faint shimmering in the air as the transporter beam engaged. From her perspective she remained stationary and intact whilst the transporter room dissolved into a chaotic stream of energised matter.

The process reversed itself with seamless precision. V'Lar's senses immediately began cataloging the new environment. Whilst she did detect trace elements of sulfur dioxide in the air, her nasal numbing agent seemed to be functioning as intended. Immediately she consulted her tricorder, checking the immediate vicinity.

T. Sevo: Immediate area is clear.

V'Lar's own tricorder confirmed the security officer's assessment. The immediate vicinity was devoid of biological or technological threats. Her gaze took in the utilitarian architecture of the surrounding structures, the design of which seemed to indicate many of the buildings had been mass-produced with a focus on function over form.

Reynolds: Response

Taelon: Um, the colony records say their apartment is - Su'roq jav cha’chorgh. Floor six, apartment eighteen. They-

The sharp, percussive sound of shattering silicate glass registered 0.2 seconds before V'Lar could move her head to get visual confirmation of a window being shattered. She quickly began efforts to calculate when and where the falling fragments would land.

Whilst the equations themselves were simple, t = (v0*sin(θ) + sqrt((v0*sin(θ))^2 + 2*g*h)) / g then d = (v0*cos(θ)) * t, several of the variables used in the equation, such as the initial speed and angle, were unknown and would be different for each falling object. Furthermore, the equations represented an ideal physical model and did not factor in the real-world effects of air resistance, something that would not remain a constant given that the glass shards would be tumbling in an irregular manner.

oO I will have to establish a reasonable margin for error and then make calculations based on a reasonable range within that which will also encompass the majority of the fragments. I will begin with estimating v0 based on the current observable speed, I can then work backwards based on time of flight since the initial breakage and the likely force required to break such a window, factoring in - Oo

T. Sevo: MOVE! ::He gently pushed on Taelon, bringing his focus back. ::

The security officer's warning irked V'Lar, whilst registering his verbal command took up very few of her mental resources.

oO Although registering his verbal command has taken up very little of my mental resources, those resources, minimal as they might be, would have been better spent on my calculations. Furthermore, me now thinking about his action and the impact it has had has further increased the quantity of resources that I am expending on activity that is of no value when I could be completing maths. It is fortunate for Mr Sevo that we do not have any Klingons on our team, if we did then there would be a statistically significant chance of at least one of his limbs being avulsed. Oo

V'Lar knew it would be illogical to wish that she be able to express emotions. She quickly began her calculations from scratch, her original maths now tainted by the Trill security officer.

oO At this point I might as well just move, by the time I am able to more accurately narrow down the time to impact and the exact location of the glass it will be beginning to land anyway. Oo

With logical efficiency she determined the optimal path to safety and moved with purpose towards the building's entrance and through the lobby doors.

((Apartment Block Lobby - Upper vIq'mItlh City, veHrom’nagh))

Inside the relative safety of the lobby, V'Lar performed a quick visual check on the wellbeing of her colleagues, noting no lacerations.

Reynolds: Response

V’lar: The damaged window is on the sixth floor. Given that is believed to be the informant's location, I would surmise that it is highly improbable that it is a coincidence.

T. Sevo: I’m not sure it’s wise to take the lift up to a possible hostile environment.

The turbolift offered a rapid ascent but was a single, confined space which represented a potential bottleneck. The stairwell would increase their transit time, but would offer multiple points of egress and greater flexibility. The risk as V'Lar saw it was that time might be an important factor for all they knew the informant was injured or someone might be destroying evidence.

V’Lar: Admiral, we know the informant is at risk and that some kind of altercation has taken place on that floor. Time may be of the essence.

Reynolds: Response

T. Sevo: ::Sighing:: Very well, in you go. I’ll be last in, first out.

V'Lar complied without comment, stepping into the turbolift car and positioning herself near the rear. She noted the flickering lights and the scored interior walls, cataloging the car's poor state of maintenance. As she studied the walls she searched for a safety notice however, just like the air cruiser, she found none.

Reynolds / Taelon: Response

((Apartment Block, Floor 6 - Upper vIq'mItlh City, veHrom’nagh))

As the doors opened, V'Lar observed the Trill security officer exit the car and conduct a sweep of the immediate area.

T. Sevo: Clear.

With the all clear given, V'Lar stepped out into the hallway, her tricorder already active. The air was stale, with high concentrations of carbon dioxide and dust particulates. The lighting was in the low-frequency red spectrum, suboptimal for Human and Trill visual acuity but acceptable for Vulcans.

Reynolds / Taelon: Response

T. Sevo: What apartment did you say he was in?

The security officer requested a data point that V'Lar had already committed to memory. Lieutenant Taelon had stated apartment eighteen. Knowing that many races could be irked by Vulcan precision and recall, she opted to be considerate to her colleague by allowing either the commander of the mission or the officer that had first stated the location to respond.

oO If I had not already escalated my concerns about the matter and received a definitive response, I would still believe my medical school grading for bedside manner to be in error. I am incredibly considerate to others. Oo

Reynolds / Taelon: Response

V'Lar: Judging from the apparent floor plan, ::Gesturing ahead of them:: I believe it is the fourth door on the left from our current position.

Reynolds / Taelon / T. Sevo: Responses

V'Lar: I am detecting faint Klingon life signs from within.

Reynolds / Taelon / T. Sevo: Responses

V'Lar: The readings are fluctuating, they may be injured or there may be something in their immediate vicinity that is interfering with tricorder readings.

Reynolds / Taelon / T. Sevo: Responses
