((Part Three))
((Deck 9 Corridor -- USS Gorkon))
::It was a couple of days later when Selamderen ran into Commander Skyfire in the corridor. He stopped and nodded to him.::
Selamderen: Commander?
Skyfire: Selamderan.
Selamderan: How are you doing?::It was a very polite question, but the meaning was apparent between the two of them. They had shared a great deal during their first two experiences with each other, bearing their most private of thoughts.::
:: Chythar flexed his bad hand, the pain not nearly as sharp as he was expecting. He did have it checked out once he calmed down from their last session, and he wasn’t nearly as angry as he was previously. ::
Skyfire: Still alive. Calmer now, I think. Probably a bit worse for wear… :: as he held up his fractured hand. :: Otherwise fine. Did you want to try again with the calming and the mind meldy stuff?
Selamderan:: Nodding.:: I do my normal mediation in a about a hour. Feel free to join me when you get time.
:: As the Vulcan wandered off, CD felt a little bit of anger. oO Was my question just dodged? Oo He closed his eyes and took a breath as he fought for calm. ::
((Fast Forward -- Selamdaren’s Quarters, USS Gorkon))
:: Chythar rang the chime, and didn’t hear an answer. Perhaps Sel had managed to rig some sort of subvocal control, because the door cycled to allow him access and shut behind him. ::
::Selamderen was deep in meditation and didn’t hear the officer arrived, but sensed the presence that was now with him. He opened up his thoughts a bit more.::
Selamederan: ~ Greetings Commander.~
Skyfire: ~Hope I’m not intruding.~
Selamederan : ~Not at all, Commander. Please relax and we will take it very gradually today.~
:: Chythar ran a hand through his hair and sat down, once again assumed the half lotus position and forced himself to relax. The emotions he had been wrestling with for the last few days had been wearing him out, as Vulcan emotions were rather strong. The intensity over the last couple days had been strong enough to make him lash out at a table and fracture his hand. ::
::The old Vulcan gave him a few minutes and then reached out with his hand again to make the link, which came almost immediately. He had felt the turmoil from the officer the other day and this time with the added meditation had put a complete lockdown on his emotions. He didn’t want CD to have any problems. In fact, he was going to have the young officer do the exploring as their thoughts merged together.::
::He remembered the training he had gone through on Vulcan as a young man, and gaining complete control over his emotions, it was just before his acceptance to the Vulcan Science Council as an apprentice.::
:: Chythar slipped into a state of relaxation, allowing himself to stand perfectly still and study the walls that made up the Vulcan’s mental shielding. Nothing seemed to matter except trying to regain the control which he was sorely lacking at this point. Studying the foundations was one fo the ways to do it, but what he really needed was training in how to keep his own emotions under lockdown. ::
::Selamederan felt the search for basic emotional training. He opened up his thoughts to the training as a youth when emotions tended to flair in young vulcans and remembered the days, weeks and months of the trainings from his elders. The long classes of meditation, the mental exercises of focusing on objects, thoughts to put back the waves of emotions that slammed at the walls when he was young.::
::The link seemed to strengthen a bit as he endured the hell which was having the Vulcan emotions slammed onto him, sitting through the meditation classes as though he was one of the troubled boys that the professor was trying to teach. Every breath became calculated and slowed, his hands clenching and unclenching in time with his breathing.::
::The old Vulcan remembered now his most critical test as a young adult, when the loss of his betrothed was announced to him by his father. He was tempted to scream in anger, but the walls held and he only clenched his fist as he stood there. Remembering his training as the news was told to him. Then slowly he relaxed it, slowly. He remembered the words his was able to only mutter. ‘Yes, Father.’ He simply turned and walked away. To find solace in a long walk which eased his mind along with the mental exercises.::
::Chythar felt the surge of emotions and he was not doing so well with the building of shields as he was being hit by the tidal wave. Even though he’d gone through this a few times before in a relatively short timespan, he was still not one hundred percent capable of locking the emotions away long enough to build any sort of shielding. Again his hands clenched and unclenched as a coping mechanism, muscles tensing a bit.::
::The memory faded from the old Vulcan’s mind a calmness took over, as he replayed the mental exercises that he had learned time and time again. It was like stream that had retreated into its banks, the current might be swift, but the banks were high and strong and the emotions were carefully channeled.::
::That made CD’s life a little easier, as once again he attempted to relax. His muscles gradually relaxed and the shielding slowly began to re-form in a similar fashion to how he had laid them out before: box shaped around his person with both a top and a bottom.::
::He continued with the mental exercises for while, feeling that CD’s foundation was getting stronger by the continued use of them. It was a bit later that he withdraw his hand. The meditation was starting to tax the old vulcan. But it had been a productive session.::
::Slowly he brought himself out of his ‘trance’ and finally opened his eyes to stare at the young officer.::
Selamederan: Commander. ::Flexing his shoulders a bit.::
:: It took a few moments for Chythar to recognize that the link was broken before he answered. He blinked once he opened his eyes. ::
Skyfire: Selamederan.
Selamederan: I feel that was quite useful for you, and in all honesty, it provided a good review for myself.::Nodding in appreciation.::
Skyfire: It’s still a little difficult...I’ll try not to punch any more tables.
Selamederan: It just takes time and practice, but I‘m at your disposal any time, Commander.
::He gave a slow nod and slowly um-pretzeled himself from the floor. Once on his feet, he smiled at Sel and gave the ‘live long and prosper’ hand sign as a symbol of thanks before letting himself out.::
::Selamederan untwisted but it took him a moment longer. Then he stretched out a bit, first one arm to a maximum reach and then another.::
