(( Unknown Facility, Deep Trenches, Deluvia IV ))

V’Lar had suggested they call out for help, but there were no contacts in the communications system, like it had been wiped. But Ayiana had an idea. The emergency bracelets they were given at the beginning of the dive not only monitored their health, but also their position, and came with a number of emergency contacts.

Ayiana tapped at the tiny screen on its face. All it really showed was what it was currently tuned to and a big button to easily press. Currently, it was set for Emergency Rescue as default, but by tapping on the channel name, Ayiana found she could cycle through various preinstalled numbers. Eventually, she found the one for Law Enforcement.

Sevo: Yes! It has a channel for police services, but it doesn’t say the number. ::Ayiana handed her bracelet over to V’Lar.:: Can you see if you can find the number, or link it up to the facility’s communications?

V’Lar took the wristband and studied it for a moment. Ayiana had chosen V’Lar to take a look as she seemed to be the most proficient and confident in her engineering abilities, despite being a Doctor. Intellectually, Ayiana could probably do the same, having her own trained and learned set of skills.

Fenn: I’d call this progress.

V'Lar: I will have to dismantle the bracelet's casing to directly access the transceiver assembly. From there, I should be able to force a local handshake with the console to access the on-board storage.

Sevo: While you do that, Fenn and I need to figure out what to do with the Nausicaan down below.

V'Lar: A wise course of action.

Fenn: Can we check the status of the door to the room he’s in? If he got trapped there, we may not need to do anything unless you still want to speak to him of course.

Sevo: Let’s see.

Ayiana returned to the console and began working through the systems, looking for door controls.

Fenn: Well if we do choose communication while we wait, I’d say the plan from before is the best one. Using the internal communications would mitigate any risk of him attacking us.

Sevo: Yea, my thoughts exactly. See if you can set up a comm link to the room he’s in.

V’Lar had succeeded in opening Ayiana’s bracelet. Bet she’ll have to pay for it when they get out of this. Next to her, she connected the bracelet to the console and began typing on it. It was a few minutes working in silence, then V’Lar broke it with a result.

V'Lar: I have isolated the frequency modulation used by the Deluvia IV planetary security forces.

Sevo: Excellent. Were you able to patch it through the facility’s comm system?

Fenn: Responses

V'Lar: It should be possible to broadcast a standard, repeating distress signal or establish a live comm channel.

Ayiana could see the benefit of both. An automated signal might not stand out as much to the intruder below, but will not have details on their predicament. The authorities might just send one or two officers. Sending out a live, personalized broadcast would certainly bring better reinforcements, but if the Nausicaan below was monitoring comms, he’d know for sure he’d been made.

Sevo: What do you suggest?

Fenn: Responses

V'Lar: An automated signal allows us to remain mobile and ostensibly conceals our specific presence, as it could be mistaken for an automated alarm. A live broadcast permits two-way communication but requires us to remain here. I must also remind you of Starfleet Regulation 46A. If we assume the intruder—or any other hostile element—is monitoring these frequencies, transmitting an uncoded message on an open channel could reveal our identity, location, and lack of armaments.

Ayiana thought about it for a moment; both options were valid. And her assessment of 46A was true, but there were ways around it.

Sevo: Insert a coded text message with the automated alarm, encoding it with standard Starfleet security codes and flags. That should let whoever know that it might be serious.

Fenn: Responses

V'Lar: Then I shall configure the transmission accordingly.  Do you wish for me to transmit now or wait until the intruder's status is confirmed?

Sevo: Let’s wait. Fenn, how’s it coming with a line downstairs?

Fenn: Response

Sevo: Good. Bring the guy up on the security monitors.

V’Lar / Fenn: Response

Sevo: Ensign, open a channel to his location.

V’Lar / Fenn: Response

It was audio only, so Ayiana didn’t have to look professional and authoritative in her skintight wetsuit. She simply stood with her hands clasped behind her back and spoke as Fenn nodded to her that the line was open.

Sevo: =/\= Attention unknown Nausicaan frantically rummaging through those crates. This is Starfleet. What in blazes are you doing down there? =/\=

V’Lar / Fenn / Nausicaan: Response
