((Acquerello Restaurant, San Francisco))
((Time Index: Night before A Hidden Gathering))
::Alex led the way as they exited the grounds of Starfleet Command and headed into old San Francisco.::
Blair: I really can’t believe this place is still around. It’s been open since the nineteen hundreds and has a reputation for the best Italian food around here.
Skyfire: Ah know some other places just as old, but not Italian. In fact, that’s probably the one language of Europe Ah am not familiar with.
::He realized, for the first time in a long time, that he never told anyone besides his counselors about his linguistic proficiencies. This wasn’t exactly the right place to go into that, but perhaps it might be a topic of conversation later on. He hoped it wouldn’t come up.::
::Alex smiled at Chythar.::
Blair: Well you’ve got me beat. Aside from a few phrases, Federation Standard is all I know. I guess if I ever lose my universal translator I’ll be lost!
::Before he could continue, Alex looked up to see the restaurant. They quickly walked in and were greeted by the maitre d. Alex explained that they had a reservation and the man quickly showed them to a table near the center of the restaurant.::
Blair: Well, this place is just as nice as I remember.
Skyfire: Pretty… ::CD glanced around at the ambiance and music, taking in the sights slowly as they were shown to their table.:: So what would ye recommend, mate?
::Alex looked down at the menu that had been left behind.::
Blair: I don’t know. It all looks so good. What are you thinking?
Skyfire: Ah’m thinkin’ the meat lasagna.
Blair: That sounds pretty good, but I’m leaning towards the chicken parmesan.
::The waiter came by giving the men a chance to place their orders. After ordering their food and receiving their drinks, Alex looked to his date.::
Blair: So how was the visit with your family?
Skyfire: Complicated, to say the least.
::He took a breath and began to explain, listing off what he learned, what he spent his days doing, his nights of meditation, his escapades on motorcycles and horses, his mental shielding, and his semi-unofficial adoption. He also explained the copious amounts of luggage: went in with one bag, came home with three. And more stuff sent to the ship already, when we get it back.::
::Alex nodded his head and smiled as Chythar shared his tale. It actually sounded like quite the ordeal and Alex was glad that his visit home was much easier.::
Blair: Wow, no offense but I’m glad that I had an easier time going home.
Skyfire: None taken. Oh, and Carter dropped by to drop off Devlin. How was yours?
Blair: For the first time in years, my trip home was nice and peaceful. ::pause:: I can’t remember if I ever told you this, but I haven’t had your typical home life.
::Alex shared his story about how his parents had groomed him to take over the family business despite his complete lack of desire to do so. He shared how at the age of eighteen he took off and joined the Marines resulting in his father disowning him and his mother taking her husband’s side.::
Blair: I don’t know if it was the fact that Starfleet considered us all lost, or the fact that my little brother went off joining the search party looking for us, but they welcomed me home with open arms. ::pause:: When I was feeling doubtful about returning to Starfleet, they actually encouraged me to return. I have actually never felt more at home with them than this visit.
Skyfire: Sounds like they want you to stay out here.
::Alex smiled and nodded.::
Blair: They do and it really surprises me more than anything. As much as they hated me joining Starfleet, they are now championing me to return, it’s almost too much to think about. ::pause:: So what about your family?
::When the order was taken, CD started to explain about his family: how his mother and father were in the civilian and Starfleet, then how after the Hobus supernova his father became more distant and how he came to love his uncle Chris as a second father. He explained the many languages, his love of science, his civilian life as a private practitioner of medicine prior to joining Starfleet, then how his father died shortly after graduation.::
Skyfire: This is the first time since my father’s death Ah’ve been back on Earth, and the longest stay thus far since Ah joined up.
Blair: I’m in the same boat. I haven’t been back here since I graduated from the Academy, and I don’t want to think about how long ago that was. ::pause:: It’s nice being back though, I almost forgot how beautiful Earth is.
Skyfire: So after this...Ah could bring you by to meet Devlin, if you want. Word is the celebration is tomorrow, so tonight would be best for you to meet him. Doubt we’ll have any time tomorrow….
::Alex paused for half a second to think.::
Blair: That sounds great. I can’t imagine a better way to end our evening.
::As Alex spoke the waiter returned to the table with both of their entrees. Both dishes looked amazing and smelled even better, for the briefest of moments Alex regretted not ordering the lasagna that Chythar had ordered.::
Blair: Wow, this food smells great. ::Alex picked up his fork.:: I can’t wait to dive right in!
Skyfire: Me neither. ::lifting his glass in a toast.:: To the start of something beautiful.
Blair: Here here!
::Alex rose his glass to meet Chythar’s, and once both had sipped their drinks they began eating the delicious tasty cuisine that was placed in front of them.::
