((Sto’Vo’Kor Lounge, USS Gorkon ))

Ayiana was standing at the forward windows in Sto’Vo’Kor, watching the Gorkon slip its way inside the massive asteroid. Twice before, Ayiana had joined teams from the Gorkon infiltrating the pirate-held asteroid, coming in via shuttlecraft. They had to be undercover, as Starfleet was persona non grata here. The Orion Syndicate had held sway over all.

The timeline shift changed all that. Now, the population swayed heavily Federation, or survivors of what was left of the Federation and its allies. How they managed to overturn the Syndicate’s iron grip on the place was a mystery. It felt weird that they were *invited*. The entrances to the asteroid’s interior were different, too. Gone were the scorched remains of ships bolted to the walls; a warning to anyone who dared defy the Syndicate. She still expected to find a familiar hull plate from an old shuttle they used to infiltrate on their first mission here; (definitely not a yacht, despite what its former owner claimed). While a few random pieces of ships remained from the heyday times of the Syndicate, Ayiana noticed a lot of the rock walls were covered in pieces of Borg ships; the greebles and irregularity of them obvious. She could have sworn she saw a few clusters of Borg skulls, as well.

While the Gorkon parked itself in a massive docking slip, Ayiana returned to her quarters to change into something less conspicuous than her uniform. The crew had been told the residents might be wary of them; no need to compound the issue by making it obvious. She elected to wear a black tank top and loose pants. Her experiences had found the interior of Nassau to be on the warm side, especially where she was going. Ayiana posted an invitation on the ship’s message boards if anyone wanted to join her. She figured the best place to find stuff about the Borg was the Burning Hole, the asteroid’s main salvage yard. Exiting the ship, Ayiana noticed that, despite the recent battle, the Gorkon was in far better shape than nearly every other ship here. Most were patch worked with replaced hull plating; and still sporting scars of battle.

(( A little while later - The Burning Hole, Nassau, Ma No Umi ))

Despite the change, Ayiana found the atmosphere of Nassau to be familiar. People still went about their business, though much of that business was different. Gone were many of the seedy dive bars and dubious storefronts (though a few remained in dark corners). She saw a lot more familiar species about. In their time, a majority of Nassau’s citizens were Orion; not surprising considering the owners of the place at the time. Of course, the Orions did not monopolize that stereotype; there were individuals of every species; just less of them.

Just riding in the maglev, Ayiana witnessed the diversity here. Vulcans, Trill, Betazoids, Klingons, Romulans, and a lot of Humans. Just the diversity alone made the place feel different; more alive and less like greed and depression made manifest.

She exited the maglev at the edge of the Burning Hole district - the main salvage operations on the asteroid. The centre of it was a never ending fire pit, the nature of which still eluded Ayiana. Asteroids normally didn’t have volcanic activity, but there were exceptions to every rule. Regardless, it was a great place to break down and slag ships that had been acquired, legally or otherwise. Ayiana saw a few familiar ship silhouettes in the distance, but most of the hulks were definitely Borg in origin.

While on the maglev, Ayiana had seen a few familiar faces from the Gorkon. Chatting them up, they had taken her offer to join her, trawling the Burning Hole for various reasons. Some wanted to find parts for the ship, others, like her, wanted to find Borg tech or information to study.

Sevo: Welcome to Nassau, everyone. You’ll find no better place of scum and villainy  — or at least, used to. I’ve no idea how it’s different now, but a scrapyard is still a scrapyard, no matter what they’re breaking down. I figure this is a great place to find stuff to fit your fancy. Ready to go? Any questions?
