Spelvan had explained the rules of the human board game to V'Lar as they had finished up their game of kal-toh.

Spelvan: I do not suppose you know of any other games we could play together in the future?

V'Lar seemed contemplative, and Spelvan wondered what she would suggest. Most non-Vulcan games were not... very logical, all things considered.

V'Lar: That depends on your preferred objective. For a static simulation, I would recommend the ancient Terran game of 'Weiqi'.

Spelvan: I am not familiar with that one.

V'Lar: It is a pure test of pattern recognition and strategic efficiency, entirely devoid of random variables. In many ways it is a game of perfect information. Nothing is hidden from the players and nothing is left to chance. It should prove marginally more intellectually demanding than attempting to locate stationary maritime vessels on a pegboard.

Spelvan raised an eyebrow. He was confident he could meet any intellectual challenge, especially one proposed by V'Lar. The white-haired Vulcan's fear of his superior had morphed into something new. Something like a respectful, almost-rivalry of sorts. Their conflicting personalities, it seemed, would eventually be able to synergize after all.

Spelvan: I suggested Battleship merely because it is my favorite, not for its superior cerebral qualities.

V'Lar: If you wish to incorporate kinetic variables, are you familiar with Racquetball? The calculation of angular velocity and trajectory in real-time provides a stimulating challenge for the mind, whilst maintaining cardiovascular efficiency.

Spelvan: I am. Many of my classmates at the Academy played it.

V'Lar: Response

Spelvan considered Pace's suggestion of a roller derby team, though team sports did not seem like they would be of V'Lar's preference. Though who knew? Perhaps she was hiding a competitive streak.

Spelvan: There is a science officer named Lieutenant Pace who seemed eager to put together a team to play "roller derby" at some point in the future, if you are ever interested in a team sport. From what I understand, it is a full contact sport played while wearing wheeled shoes.

V'Lar: Response

Spelvan: As for your suggestion of racquetball, I would be amenable to it or weiqi... or both. There is no need to limit our experimental diversions.

V'Lar: Response
