(( Past the Outer Marker, Gateside Dimension ))
The shuttle continued to push through the hostile environment. An immense and mysterious and immense structure of unknown origins, but completely known Kobliads awaited them. It was now time to proceed.
Kovar: I find the landing pad to be most curious. One would think that it would be constructed of the same material as this facility. Is it possible that the scientists did not build it, but merely discovered it already here?
Marshall: That's an excellent question and I'd very much like an answer to it before we set this thing down. What's it looking like it's made from?
Fenn: ::running a molecular scan on the building:: Sensors scans are inconclusive, Commander. There are elements in the construction material the computer can’t identify and but there’s also elements known to us in our dimension.
Marshall: So either the scientists found it
already here and had the presence of mind to put a landing pad on it, or
someone else put it there for reasons we don't currently understand
and probably won't like when we do. ::Exhaling a breath, she
nodded to Fenn.:: Alright Maezel, take us in on a slow approach.
With any luck, we'll get a chance to have a look outside before
something tries a boarding manoeuvre.
Fenn: Aye, Commander.
Kovar: Response
Marshall: Apart from the wounded scientist and
the other life sign, are we picking up on anything else?
Fenn: Nothing else showing on my sensors, Commander.
Kovar: Affirmative, which is strange considering the immensity of this structure. One would think that sensors would pick up a power source, but our equipment could be affected due to any number of factors.
Fenn took them in and landed the shuttle, carefully. A suspicion regarding the integrity of the landing pad was perhaps warranted. They had no idea as to the age of anything here, or the effects that this dimension had on, well, anything. But now was the time to exit the shuttle and enter the mysterious structure. Kovar was grateful for the EVA suits, though he had not expected to be wearing one beyond the veil.
Marshall: Right, last check. We need suits
sealed, weapons ready, and a resonator sweep before that hatch opens.
We go in, we find what's in there, complete the objective, and
we book it out of here. Any questions?
Fenn: ::checking her suit and weapons:: No
questions, Commander.
Kovar: No questions.
He checked his suit and weapons, and also made sure to take the shuttle’s medical kit with them. There was no telling whether the denizens of the structure had any means of medical treatment, but they were obligated to offer assistance. Besides, Fenn had a phaser rifle, and combat was never his forte.
As they exited the shuttle, harsh crimson light engulfed
them, and the immensity of the structure was finally before them.
(( Mysterious Structure, Gateside Dimension ))
Fenn: ::looking up at the towering spires:: This may
take a while to search...
Kovar: Perhaps there is a directory somewhere that we can consult.
oO There. Appropriately applied ‘gallows humor’ that will help to alleviate the tension of our situation. Oo
Marshall: Response
Now that they were outside of the shuttle, Kovar’s question of Kobliad architectural
practices seemed ridiculous. It was clear that this was alien, even by
Federation standards. As they approached the door, the Vulcan noticed what appeared
to be an inert control panel to the right of the doorway. They came right up to
it, but nothing happened. Fenn attempted to wake the panel, but again, nothing
happened.
Fenn: Locked...
Kovar: Indeed. ::scanning with tricorder:: Most curious. It appears that
his door control currently has no power. I wonder if this is an issue with the equipment,
or intentional.
Marshall: Response
Kovar: If it is merely a matter of providing a power source, we could utilize the shuttle due to its potential output. The only issue with that is that if something were to go awry the shuttle is presumably our only means of transportation home.
Marshall / Fenn: Response
Kovar: Understood. I will begin preparing the panel mechanism to receive power. If the Kobliads were able to gain entry, it would be logical to assume that the system is not beyond our means.
Marshall / Fenn: Response
