If only she had more time. Unfortunately (on many accounts), the medium Var preferred to toy with was space, not time. Dimensions, not eras. She should have had a second cup of tea. She needed to be faster, more efficient. More tea would’ve helped. No replicator here, though, not in the lab she’d locked herself in. She just had to keep working and hope that the data she collected on the gateway and its creatures was enough…and that it would, somehow, end up in the hands of people who could actually use it.
Var Gamoya had given up on the idea that she was getting out of here a long time ago.
At least it felt like a long time. How long had it been?
Spelvan: ::He cleared his throat,:: Greetings, I am Ensign Spelvan, and these are my colleagues Admiral Reynolds and Ensign Valek. We are Starfleet officers, here to assist.
Var didn’t respond, the voice barely registering. This wasn’t the first time today she’d been hearing voices, even if this was the first to identify itself as Starfleet. She didn’t have time for hallucinations, or…whatever the dimensional bleed was doing to cause the voices.
Valek: I am Valek of Starfleet Security. You are advised that a complete power shutdown is imminent. This action will disrupt your systems and energy shield.
Reynolds:
Gamoya: ::the woman continued to type frantically and muttering to herself:: Almost there, almost....just need to get this....ugh...come on!
Var slammed a fist down on her console as it flickered, praying it would resolve itself without another error message this time. Damned power fluctuations again. Movement caught her eye and she finally looked up…to find a pair of Vulcans and a small woman, all in Starfleet uniforms.
Huh.
She must have heard a real voice earlier then, not the flora hallucination. Was it a hallucination? She wasn’t sure. Maybe her data would elucidate matters, but she hadn’t had any time to analyze the results, too focused on collecting as much as possible for whoever came after her. Except…those who came after were here, now, and Var Gamoya was very much not dead. Interesting.
Spelvan: We have much to discuss, but first we must inform you that some of our associates are attempting to restart the power source for the facility. You should cease using the console immediately.
Valek: The Ensign is correct. As previously indicated, an imminent shutdown will result in the loss of all power and energy shielding. Shutdown of your systems is recommended to mitigate potential hazards.
Potential hazards? Like the flora her shielding was currently keeping at bay? Their solution to this mess was to shut it all down? They were Starfleet, and, what, turn it off and back on again was the best they could come up with? Maybe she misunderstood.
Gamoya: ::her face showed frustration:: I am almost done, how much time do I have? The flora vegetation, or as we call it, 'Flora Vermilionis' is increasing its presence, and preparing for something. I am trying to isolate as much data as possible.
She said “we”---she wasn’t sure why. She hadn’t spoken to anyone since…well. How long had it been? Not very long, surely. But with the rate of expansion and the viciousness of the flora, she was honestly surprised anyone else had survived. Of course, of course it would be Starfleet.
Reynolds/Spelvan: Response
Valek: Doctor, time constraints do not permit delay. The system should be operational again shortly.
The scientist’s face wrinkled in irritation, but she saved and backed up her work. The slime mould threatening her space earned a vaguely disgusted look, before she keyed in the command to drop the shielding. With the systems shut down, she crossed her arms and turned to the Starfleet team.
Gamoya: My people didn’t cause this mess, it’s like the Gateway was…hijacked. It’ll have to be shut down from the other side. I hope you’ve been figuring out how to get there safely.
Reynolds/Spelvan/Valek: Response
Gamoya: I’ve been compiling data on the flora coming through the gateway, and on the gateway itself. I can send you everything we have.
Var looked back at her console, still irritated by the shutdown. She really should have had another tea. If she’d known she’d be dealing with Starfleet, she would have. Not that she was ungrateful for their assistance, of course not. But there were reasons Var chose not to join Starfleet herself, like their somewhat annoying tendency toward self-righteousness.
Reynolds/Spelvan/Valek: Response
Gamoya: So what do you know so far? No sense in repeating what you’ve already figured out.
Reynolds/Spelvan/Valek: Response
