Spelvan, Valek and Reynolds had finally found the doctor they had been searching for in the server room of the facility.

Spelvan: We have much to discuss, but first we must inform you that some of our associates are attempting to restart the power source for the facility. You should cease using the console immediately.

Valek: The Ensign is correct. As previously indicated, an imminent shutdown will result in the loss of all power and energy shielding. Shutdown of your systems is recommended to mitigate potential hazards.

Gamoya: ::Frustrated etched itself onto her face.:: I am almost done, how much time do I have? The flora vegetation, or as we call it, 'Flora Vermilionis' is increasing its presence and preparing for something. I am trying to isolate as much data as possible.

Spelvan suspected she wasn't too happy to see them, that to her they were at best an unwanted nuisance. The fact that the first thing they had asked was to stop her work due to projects that another team was executing probably didn't help matters.

Valek: Doctor, time constraints do not permit delay. The system should be operational again shortly.

Reynolds: It's better to save what you have now than lose it all in a power surge.

Spelvan: I agree with my crewmates.

Resigned to her fate, Gamoya entered a few final commands into her console to shut it down before dropping the force field. She turned to face them, arms crossed across her chest as she set her sights on the group, looking them over.

Gamoya: My people didn’t cause this mess, it’s like the Gateway was… hijacked. It’ll have to be shut down from the other side. I hope you’ve been figuring out how to get there safely.

Reynolds: We have, yes.

Spelvan: ::He raised an eyebrow:: Hijacked?

Valek: Response

It was something that had been mentioned in their mission briefing, but Spelvan had been so focused on their mission at hand that he had almost forgotten that they would eventually need to go beyond the gate to close it from the other side. The doctor would be lying if he said he was looking forward to that inevitable next stage, but he would do what needed to be done.

Gamoya: I’ve been compiling data on the flora coming through the gateway, and on the gateway itself. I can send you everything we have.

The scientist cast an almost longing gaze over her shoulder at the console. Her open annoyance was almost refreshing in contrast to his current company, who had been mostly succeeding at not letting their emotions get in the way of their task at hand.

Reynolds: That would be helpful. We have teams working on countermeasures, and that could help them refine their solutions.

Spelvan nodded politely at the Admiral's response.

Valek: Response

Gamoya: So what do you know so far? No sense in repeating what you’ve already figured out.

Reynolds: We can share all the information we have once we've got you back to the Gorkon and debriefed all our teams. But right now, perhaps you can help understand something. We've encountered people who've been mutated, for want of a better word. One we thought dead, but when we came back that way, he was gone. Do you have any idea what might have happened to him?

The doctor reflexively shuddered as he recalled the moment they'd stumbled upon the scientist's body, warped and twisted by plant matter. He tried not to focus too hard on the memory and instead contribute to the conversation at hand.

Spelvan: Yes. His name was Dr. Throka. I... declared him deceased myself but his body is missing.

Valek / Gamoya: Response

Reynolds: There's also someone back there, ::she gestured in the direction they'd approached from,:: protected by the slime mould. Do you know anything about it?

Spelvan: They did not respond to auditory response, but otherwise appear stable - though I was not able to medically scan them properly.

Reynolds/Gamoya/Valek: Response

The white-haired Vulcan wracked his brain for any other relevant questions to ask the scientist while they had her attention. Spelvan made an effort to straighten his posture; he glanced over at Valek, suddenly self-conscious.

Spelvan: We transported one of your scientists who had been mutated by the vines to our ship - the Gorkon's - sickbay. Any information you may have in that regard would be helpful.

Reynolds/Gamoya/Valek: Response

The doctor looked at the scientist again and was too tired and stressed to repress the feelings of satisfaction that were overcoming him now. Everyone else in this facility they had found had been dead or possessed. How good it was, then, to find someone at last who, though frazzled, was alive and safe. Even if it were just for this moment.

Spelvan: I must admit that I am... relieved that we have found you safe. If there is anything specific we can do to help, please let us know.

Reynolds/Gamoya/Valek: Response
