((Holodeck 3, USS Gorkon))
::Lael entered a series of commands into a nearby console, bringing up a lovely ballroom. She was dressed casually in gray wool leggings, a black Daystrom Institute long sleeve sweater and her black Converse. It was the only of her clothes that fit. The others were getting a bit tight. She’d have to remember to do some shopping.::
::Chythar came into the ballroom in a short-sleeved black nondescript shirt and pair of jeans, with his black combat boots. He glanced around and blinked at it for a few seconds, his eyes taking a few moments to adjust to the light.::
Skyfire: Nice place you got.
Rosek: ::smiles wanly:: Well, just because I’m not dressed the part, doesn’t mean we can’t be in a nice place.
Skyfire: Ah’m not dressed the part either. You know me, Ah hate fancy dress and parties.
Rosek: ::indicates her outfit:: This was one among only a couple of things that fits. ::grimaces:: Losing my body and my mind both at once.
Skyfire: Ah doubt ye’ve lost yer mind, lass. The rest...gaining more of a body than last time Ah saw ye.
::CD shook his head and walked over to her, so he was within dancing distance. He gently cradled her face and locked his gaze with hers. Friends had to support each other, right? This was one way of doing it.::
Skyfire: Don’t ye ever accuse yourself of goin’ soft, Lael. We’ve been through an ordeal, and you’re recovering nicely from the looks of it. Ah’ll help ye with the workouts and run them with you, if you’d like.
Rosek: ::smiles:: Thanks.
::Chythar nodded and let go of her face, managing a soft smile. Since he was the CMO and mentally fine, he was now permitted to do his job and handle the paperwork for the Gorkon cases again. ::
Skyfire: You’ll be fine, lass. Ah will do everything Ah can to help.
Rosek: You're such a good friend.
Skyfire: Thanks. Now, um...my turn for dumb questions, aye? Why are we here? ::He gestured to the grand surroundings around them.::
Rosek: ::grins:: More dance lessons. There are a lot of styles left to explore.
Skyfire: Dance lessons? ::He raised a quizzical eyebrow.:: Ye think that my life is going to get complicated and Ah need to learn more dance styles?
Rosek: ::shrugs:: Handy to have. It's more about the culture of it...expanding your horizons. Plus it does wonders for your confidence.
::Chythar pondered that over. He thought about the trip he took back home, the teachings of his family, and all the work he did since returning to space. He was confident in himself, and his abilities. He idly wondered how sophisticated he needed to be in order to actually *use* these styles she was trying to teach him.::
Skyfire: And you know a lot about dancing because…?
Rosek: ::blushes and murmurs:: My mom forced me to go to finishing school when I turned 15. I was a bit of a tomboy back then.
Skyfire: Finishing school? Hm. ::He shrugged.:: Didn’t know civilized places still did that.
Rosek: Not as common nowadays. That was all Mom. She was the instructor. Had a class at the local country club.
::He shrugged, and didn’t comment. Chythar didn’t have a clue how to continue that line of inquiry.::
Rosek: ::smirks:: Where did you think I learned it all? I wasn't even a bit a lady until mom got her claws into me. Even made me tone down my accent. Made her crazy.
Skyfire: You had an accent at one point?
Rosek: ::in an exaggerated Mid-west accent:: Sure did, honey. I was even in FFE in my freshman year of high school.
Skyfire: FFE? ::he asked inquisitively.::
Rosek: Future Farmers of Earth. Milked cows and fed the hogs their slop. That was when we lived further north. ::laughs:: ::normal voice:: I was all farmer's caps and baggy jeans back then.
Skyfire: Ah see. ::He glanced up at the ceiling, then to her.:: So, what’s first on my sophistication lessons?
Rosek: Hmm. Let’s start with the waltz and work our way up from there. Lay your right hand on my waist and put your left in mine.
::He did as instructed, quirking a brow in curiosity. This was new territory for him, much like horseback riding and motorcycles had been before. Now he knew more about both, but only recalled very dimly his dance lessons once upon an alt-verse in Sto’Vo’Kor.
Rosek: Computer, begin waltz number three.
::As the music played, most of the worries began to fade away. Most of the problems associated with sickbay and the troublesome patients faded. Most of the difficulties associated with his social awkwardness began to fade. At least, temporarily.::
Rosek: ::nods:: All right. Imagine you’re making a box on the floor. You go back with your right and I step toward you with my right. Then step left and slide your right together with your left. Last step, back with your right and slide them together. Got it?
Skyfire: Back right, step left, slide right, back right, slide left. Got it. ::He didn’t think he got it, but he gave an internal shrug and tried to follow.::
Rosek: Here. It’ll help once you’re in it. I’ll count it off. 1...2...3...begin. ::As she performed each of the steps, she counted out loud.:: One...two...three...repeat...one...two...three. Good. One...two...three.
::He followed her direction as best he could, glancing down at his feet for the first few boxes. After the fourth, he locked his gaze with hers once again and tried it on instinct.::
Skyfire: Seriously, Lael...do you think Ah’m ever going to use this stuff?
Rosek: ::smiles:: Of course you will. It just takes time and practice. ::grins impishly:: If you don’t mind, I’ll show you what I mean.
Skyfire: Go ahead. ::He paused curiously, then continued.:: Likelihood of me asking a flag officer for a waltz? Come on...never happen.
Rosek: ::shrugs:: It’s just a stepping stone to the more complex dances. ::smirks:: And you never know. You and Alex might do some dancing.
Skyfire: Don’t kid yerself. Not realistic.
Rosek: ::to Computer:: Computer, swing dance partner number five.
::Lael grinned as Brandon appeared before her.::
Brandon: ::grins:: Hey, pretty lady. It’s been awhile.
Rosek: ::shrugs and smiles:: Been busy. This… ::motions to Chythar:: ...is my friend Chythar. I’m giving him some dancing lessons.
Brandon: ::smiles at Chythar:: You’re learning from the best. This pretty lady can really set a room on fire.
Skyfire: No surprise there, with a chap like you. ::He winked at Brandon playfully.::
Rosek: ::to Brandon:: Let’s show him some swing moves.
Brandon: ::murmurs:: With pleasure.
::She slid easily into the first stance.::
Rosek: Computer, cue “Jump, Jive, an’ Wail”.
::She couldn’t help but grin as the music started pounding.::
::Brandon tapped his foot a few times to count them off and within moments, they were flying around the room at a quick pace, rocking to the music as they performed various spin-ins and other moves.::
::CD watched quietly, clapping along to the beats as they performed. He was pretty sure he’d never actually use any of these things during social affairs, but was always open to trying new things.::
::As the music came to a halt, she pulled away, trying to catch her breath.::
Rosek: ::breathlessly:: Computer, freeze program. ::to Chythar:: See? Nothing to it.
Skyfire: So how many different ringers are you planning on running me through?
Rosek: ::brow furrows thoughtfully:: Not all of them. Just the basics, really. ::she counts them on her fingers:: I know waltz, swing, rumba, salsa, tap, ballet…
Skyfire: OK. ::He paused thoughtfully.:: What do you think Ah’m most likely to use with Alex?
Rosek: ::thoughtfully:: Salsa or rumba I’d think. They’re more same sex friendly. The others...you don’t typically see guys dancing with other guys.
::He pondered that over, thinking about the possibilities. His conversations with Alex hadn’t led to dancing just yet, but that didn’t mean it was going to be a possibility. Time would tell.::
Skyfire: A’right. Run me through the basics of salsa, and don’t forget the chips.
Rosek: ::laughs:: You haven’t lost your sense of humor I see. ::to Computer:: Computer, salsa partner number two. ::to Chythar:: It might be best if you see how it’s meant to go at normal speed first. ::jumps when she feels lips on her hand and turns to Fabio, smiling:: Oh, you sneak. You startled me.
Fabio: ::smirks:: You look lovely, as always, mi amor.
Rosek: ::laughs:: Down boy. I’m engaged remember?
Fabio: ::drawls:: What he doesn’t know…
Rosek: Behave, now. ::motions to Chythar:: Fabio, this is my friend Chythar. I’m teaching him how to salsa.
Fabio: ::to Chythar:: You could have no better maestra, mi amigo. ::smug:: She’s learned from the best after all.
Rosek: ::rolls her eyes:: Yes, yes. I’ve heard it a thousand times.
Skyfire: Nice to meet you, Fabio.
::He nodded a hello to the hologram and raised a quizzical eyebrow. He was getting to the point where he’d heard all the lines before, and lost track of how many times he’d heard them.::
Rosek: ::to Fabio:: “Bailando”?
Fabio: ::grins:: Si, senorita. Excellent choice.
Rosek: ::to computer:: Computer, cue “Bailando”.
