The plan was set, they would proceed to the security aux room to find the door release. The cold dark corridors with flickering lights made the facility's visibility very low, however, Valek and Spelvan both had very keen hearing, and currently Valek was concentrating on any noise that seemed out of place.

Valek: Admiral, Ensign, I will remain behind to provide security. You may proceed when ready.

The choice to follow behind the Admiral and Spelvan was made so that he could cover the rear. In most cases Valek would take the point, but since they had already passed this part of the facility he was sure it was safe. Logically, they should not be in any immediate danger.

Spelvan: Understood.

The trio of officers slowly retraced their steps back to the auxiliary room. Valek's phaser was out and at the ready. He maintained a fairly close proximity to the officers and kept his senses fully alert. As they moved along Valek distinctly heard someone cry out. It was faint and distant, but he was sure he heard it. Spelvan shuddered as well, Valek wondered if the young Vulcan also heard the same sound. He was now on full alert and moved closer to the other officers maintaining his open senses for any danger.

Turning down the corridor that they had passed previously, the Admiral and Spelvan stopped. Valek moved a bit closer. He saw what they had discovered. Flecks and smears of blood on the deck. Spelvan immediately started scanning the discovery.

Spelvan: It does appear to be humanoid blood, sirs.

Reynolds: ::Low,:: We need you up front now, Ensign Valek.

He couldn't tell if the Admiral was distressed, but her voice was stern and low. He immediately complied and moved forward next to the Admiral.

Valek: Admiral, I have detected a distant vocalization that may indicate another individual nearby. The origin cannot yet be confirmed. I will take point and conduct a systematic clearing of the room. It would be prudent that we proceed with caution.

Moving forward, Valek entered the security aux room. He quickly scanned over the entire room. There were monitors on one wall, most of them cracked and busted. There were several areas where electrical sparks were snapping. The most intriguing thing Valek detected was what appeared to be three claw marks ripped into the wall on the right, extending into the deck. Valek also saw distinct blood marks. However, he did not detect any life signs or danger in the room.

Valek: :: calling over his shoulder :: Admiral, Ensign. The room has been cleared. It is safe for you to proceed.

He then stepped a bit further into the room and stepped aside so the Admiral and Spelvan could enter.

Spelvan: ::Quietly,:: I wonder if Gamoya was here, or if it was someone else.

Reynolds: Can you tell from the blood? Even if we can narrow down species, it might give us an idea. It's not the most populous of outposts.

Valek: Ensign, can you ascertain whether this blood is consistent with the DNA profile of Var Gamoya?

Spelvan: Response

Reynolds: That much blood, and it's still relatively fresh. ::She frowned and shook her head, sweeping her gaze around the room.:: They can't have gone far. Unless they were carried.

With the evidence in front of them, Valek was feeling a bit uneasy. Something he was not used to. The claw marks, blood and damage of this room indicated high levels of violence. And something not of this world most likely caused this. Valek moved around the room carefully, stepping around the blood marks and around the perimeter of the room. At the back location behind a wall of monitors he saw another exit, this one was wide open and led down a dark corridor that had little to no light. He could distinctly see blood smears leading into it from the aux room.

Valek: Admiral, I have discovered an alternate exit. The blood trail strongly suggests that the injured party exited in this direction.

Reynolds / Spelvan: Response

Since this was an unknown section they had not explored yet, Valek would take the lead moving forward. He would have preferred to have one more security person with them, but for now he was the only protection the Admiral and Spelvan had. He would do his utmost to keep them safe.

Valek: Admiral, if you would like to proceed and follow the trail I will take lead at your order.

Reynolds / Spelvan: Response

((OOC: Thank you for fixing my botched log entry. I meant for Valek to cover the six, not remain behind.))
