((Emerald Reef Hotel Ballroom, Deluvia IV))
Tahna: When ambushed in the city and taking heavy fire, this team worked neatly together to save lives, protect their teammates, and stop known murderers. For their actions on the colony, and for their heroism under fire, I’m proud to award Vice Admiral Quinn Reynolds, Lieutenant Commander V’Lar, Lieutenant Taelon, and Lieutenant JG Toran Sevo with the Good Conduct Ribbon.
They were Starfleet, but taking heavy enemy fire was not an everyday occurrence. The fact that the whole team had made it out with only minor injuries, and had saved a life in the process as recognized earlier, was certainly something to be celebrated. And it was celebrated with ribbons and the joyful cheers of the crowd. Always a little sheepish when it was her turn to receive a commendation, Quinn waited for both the pink hue on her freckled cheeks and the celebrations to die down before stepping back to the podium.
Reynolds: Our last presentation of the evening, the Excellence in Adaptability Ribbon, recognises a unique service. One defined not by specialty, but by resourcefulness. We award it to an officer who stepped beyond their assigned role when circumstances left them no other option, and who carries out unfamiliar duties with skill, resolve, and professionalism. It reflects a dedication to their fellow crew above position or comfort, and a willingness to serve wherever the mission demands. For demonstrating that commitment, I am honoured to present the Excellence in Adaptability Ribbon to Lieutenant Commander Finch, Lieutenant Gnaxac, Lieutenant Junior Grade Pace, and Ensign Spelvan.
With a smile on her face and a nod toward Finch, Quinn brought her hands together in the last round of congratulations for the evening. Everyone had deserved their commendations, but she always thought it was a special thrill to see the newer officers among them distinguish themselves and earn their first ribbons. She remained where she was, and as the cheers faded away, she spoke again.
Reynolds: And with that, the ceremony is at an end. We have the hotel all evening, so please enjoy the food and drink on offer, and talk or dance the night away. ::She paused, and then offered with a slightly awkward smile.:: You are among the finest officers I have ever served with, and I hope you are all as proud of yourselves as I am of you.
Another round of applause rippled through the ballroom, and she stepped down from the podium to join Tahna and Finch once again. She kept the sigh from blowing straight out of her lungs, releasing her breath in a steady exhale, glad to be off the stage and no longer the focus of attention. Yet as much as she found it taxing, recognising her crew and their achievements was definitely one of the best parts of command—and from the spark in her First and Second Officer’s eyes, they thought so, too.
