((Isolation Unit, Deck 7, USS Gorkon))
As their mandatory quarantine following the hostile extra-dimensional mission stretched on, V'Lar felt it appropriate to underscore exactly why the extended isolation was a necessity.
V’Lar: Need I remind you, the transporter's bio-filters only filter out known, indexed biological anomalies? If a pathogen or other infectious agent is not in the database, the system will not recognise it as a threat or safely filter it out.
V'Lar observed the Commander release a sharp exhalation of breath before discarding her personal PADD.
Tahna: We don’t need Transporters 101, Doctor. We’re just tired, it was a highly stressful mission, and I think everyone in this room would prefer to be decompressing from it alone in the quiet of their own rooms but we know that’s not possible.
The First Officer’s vocal tone, combined with the reference to fundamental education, clearly indicated a level of annoyance despite V'Lar merely providing greater context for their need for quarantine and the limitations of the transporter's safety systems.
oO It would appear her emotional fatigue is impairing her patience on the subject of operational redundancies. Oo
Pace: Yes, sirs. I’d love to be able to turn the gravity off and float around, but I understand why we need to quarantine. I’d hate to bring any part of those plants aboard the Gorkon.
V’Lar: My intent was not to provide elementary instruction, but to reinforce operational realities of our situation. If silence, or a change in gravity, aids either of your wellbeing, I am amenable to accommodating your preferences and will return to my work.
Tahna: Have you tried the cookies, V’Lar? They’re made from a Bajoran fruit.
V'Lar found the pivot from safety systems to baked goods to be unexpected. Her gaze shifted to the plate of replicated cookies resting nearby.
Pace: What kind are they, sir?
V'Lar had previously been offered milaberry biscuits by Commander Marshall. While the cookies appeared similar, V'Lar could not tell if they were in fact the same. Regardless, her position on such items remained absolute.
oO Such confection offers negligible nutritional utility. Their consumption will merely precipitate a rapid and unnecessary spike in blood glucose. Oo
V’Lar: I have not. My familiarity with Bajoran snacks is limited but they are visually similar to milaberry biscuits.
V'Lar watched the Commander pick up one of the biscuits and ingest a portion of it.
Tahna: Now that you’ve both had a little time to process, how are you feeling about everything?
Pace: Hangry, uh, I mean okay. Sorry, sirs. Would it be okay if I had a cookie?
V’Lar: My 'feelings' are all in my report, Commander; I have nothing further to add at this time. ::Turning to Pace:: Am I to infer that you are asking for permission rather than for dietary advice, Lieutenant?
Tahna: Response
Pace: Thank you, sir. Do we have any news on the civilian we took from the pod?
The Lieutenant's transition back to professional matters was a welcome relief from talk of feelings and baked goods.
V’Lar: They are currently secured in an isolated medical bay. Their status is stable; however, they will likely experience long-term difficulties as a result of their ordeal.
Tahna: Response
V'Lar observed the Elaysian retrieve one of the Bajoran biscuits, and take a bite.
Pace: Oh wow, these are really good! You should try them, doctor!
V’Lar: I will take your endorsement under advisement, Lieutenant; however, I do not require sustenance at this time.
Pace/Tahna: Response
V’Lar: Regarding the outpost, Commander. What is to become of the surviving scientists?
Pace/Tahna: Response
V’Lar: How long do you calculate such efforts will take?
Pace/Tahna: Response
