(( “Avwyr Town” - Holodeck 9 - Deck 9 - USS Gorkon ))
An impromptu encounter in the ship’s corridors, had led to an even more surprising visit to the holodeck. The setting was Avwyr Town at Elaysia the home planet of Lieutenant Vesela Pace and with a lower gravity setting that Meg was still getting used to. The view however had her in awe and she was loving every moment of it. And how could one forget about the food? Breju Vesela had named it, it was hot but at least she had not dropped the pastry when she tossed it from one hand, napkin included, to the other as it came almost fresh out of the oven. Meg took another bite, somewhat bigger now that the pastry had cooled down.
Bendyn: One day we will have to try these at your home, Vesela. I will hold a petition to visit Elaysia during one of our next shore leaves. Surely we can bribe the Admiral with a few of these, what do you think?
Pace: As long as she enjoys carbs, this has to do the trick!
Vesela laughed as she took a small bite of her bread. Meg could see the steam raising from the pastry.
Bendyn: Splendid. I will add it to my list of things to do when I finish this delicious treat.
She smiled towards the vendor, who was already putting a next batch of delicious treats into his oven before she carefully moved further, mingling with the people in the streets. She was careful not to drop her pastry but also had to mind not to bump into people. Next to all that, she also had to balance her steps. She needed all her attention just doing that, hardly looking around her when Pace suddenly called out.
Pace: Oh look, a tapestry stall!
Meg turned towards Vesela who pointed a few stalls away. Not wanted to waste anything from her delicious treat, Meg wrapped hers in her napkin and focussed on the route to the stall. She was about to reach out to one of the tapestries but withdraw her hand and finished the pastry first.
Bendyn: Those are lovely. If those are handmade I can not imagine the amount of hours that is needed to create such a piece.
Pace: What kind of art is most prevalent on Betazed?
Bendyn: We have different kinds, ranging from paintings to sculptures and different kinds of music but we also have telepathic art, which is somewhat difficult for other species to gasp or to explain. Although the younger population is turning away from those and leaning more to live art.
Pace: Response
With her breju finished she wiped her hands on her napkin but could not find a place to deposit it immediately and just tugged it away in her pocket. It was only now that she moved forward to have a better look at the tapestry. A bit too fast she turned towards Pace and had to counter her turn, a lot less graceful as Pace had moved earlier. She pulled out the tapestry to examine it even more closely. Figures in different position were woven into the fabric.
Bendyn: Why do I have the feeling there is a whole story to read in this tapestry?
Pace: Response
Meg let go of the tapestry, carefully putting it back. She took a few steps back and choose a different tapestry. This one had less figures but showed a view of the marketplace, with it stalls and wares. She let go of the piece and clasped her hands together.
Bendyn: This is so amazing.
She was about to suggest something when Meg realized she was on a holodeck.
Bendyn: Now we certainly need to visit Elaysia. Do you think they could make a tapestry like this but with all different kinds of plants? Although there would be less of a story in such a tapestry.
Pace: Response
