(( Undersea Facility, Deep Trenches, Deluvia IV ))

The trio had managed to identify a Nausicaan as the life sign with them in the facility. He seemed to be armed, agitated and looking for something specific. The question next on the agenda was what to do. Maezel had suggested calling law enforcement to come and help them fearing that a confrontation probably wouldn’t go their way considering they were unarmed.

Fenn: An alternative plan if I may Commander – the facility looks abandoned, the doors inside sensative areas are locked tight, indicating a lockdown and we have an armed individual who looks like he could be a looter. Perhaps now is the best time to see if we can access external communications and call in law enforcement?

V'Lar: We have had limited success accessing systems so far and we are yet to establish the source of the sensor interference; however, it would seem prudent to explore the possibility.

Sevo: Let’s see what we can come up with.

Fenn: I just feel we’ve probably stepped into something we shouldn’t have and the presence of an armed individual changes the playing field a little.

V'Lar: We are Starfleet officers, Ensign. ::Turning to face her:: 'Stepping into things' is, regrettably, the nature of our service. But I agree; caution is required.

Sevo: She’s right. It’s part of the job; sometimes to the chagrin of authorities.

Maezel considered this to be true though if this was a standard away mission, her academy training had taught her they’d also have weapons. If needed they would also be able to call the Gorkon for assistance and if anything went wrong then sick bay was only an emergency transport away. This was most definitely not the case here.

V'Lar: If we are to involve external authorities, we must overcome the environmental interference. To ensure maximum efficiency, we should ascertain which of us possesses the superior qualification for the task.

oO Let’s not. My engineering grades weren’t amazing. Oo

V'Lar: I did achieve an A- in ENG233; do either of you possess a superior grade or more practical experience?

Sevo: Uh…I don’t remember what class that is or what grade I got. But I’m good with computers.

Fenn: I have experience with oceanic facilities like this but my Engineering grades at the Academy were, let’s say, less than great.

V'Lar: Then I will focus on attempting to access the system so we can make an attempt.

Maezel thought that this was probably the best idea as Commander V’Lar took a seat at one of the consoles. She knew to splice genes and she could engineer XNA quite well but asking her to fix a communications system would likely take her a while. She considered this was probably a weakness she should look to address at some point and wondered if someone on the Engineering staff could give her some tips sometime.

V'Lar: Access is established; however, the victory is technical rather than practical. The transceiver is active, yet the directory is devoid of any specific frequencies, without them it would be akin to shouting into a void.

oO As if this facility wasn’t shady enough already... Oo

V'Lar: Furthermore, the interference presents a range limitation. I do not believe we have sufficient power to contact our own vessel. However, reaching a surface relay on the planet requires significantly less energy. It is theoretically possible, provided we broadcast on the appropriate frequency.

Sevo: Any come to mind?

Fenn: ::shaking her head:: Regrettably no...

V'Lar: Do either of you possess the specific frequencies for local law enforcement?

Sevo: Not off the top of my h — Wait!

Maezel could almost see the metaphorical lightbulb flashing over Commander Sevo’s head as the epiphany hit. Maezel watched as Commander Sevo pulled off her emergency bracelet she’d handed to each of them before starting the dive. Maezel understood immediately where the Commander’s train of thought was going. Emergency bracelets would be equipped with emergency frequencies, maybe one they could use if they linked it with the system.

Sevo: Our emergency bracelets that we were given before we started our dive. They have built in transceivers and numbers.

Fenn: Great idea, Commander!

Sevo: I thought it just had medical services, but it probably has rescue and other authorities as well.

Fenn: We’d need to link that to the communications system, I doubt this facility would let unknown signals through.

V’Lar: Response

Maezel moved to Commander Sevo’s position and watched from her side as she tapped away on the bracelet’s small interface. It seemed to be possible to scroll through various emergency frequencies and it wasn’t long before she’d found one for law enforcement.

Sevo: Yes! It has a channel for police services, but it doesn’t say the number. ::Ayiana handed her bracelet over to V’Lar.:: Can you see if you can find the number, or link it up to the facility’s communications?

Fenn: I’d call this progress.

V’Lar: Response

Sevo: While you do that, Fenn and I need to figure out what to do with the Nausicaan down below.

Fenn: Can we check the status of the door to the room he’s in? If he got trapped there, we may not need to do anything unless you still want to speak to him of course.

Sevo / V’Lar: Response

Fenn: Well if we do choose communication while we wait, I’d say the plan from before is the best one. Using the internal communications would mitigate any risk of him attacking us.

Sevo / V’Lar: Response
