(( Palace Hotel, San Francisco, Earth))
:: She pointed to Lilly’s enlarged abdomen who was holding her back while she was deeply breathing. ::
O'Malley: Everything alright?
::Lilly nodded and smiled at him.::
Sevo: It's just...Trills carry a fetus for about three months. We never get...like that.
O’Malley: We are only familiar to this. ::He was touching Lilly's belly.:: In earth's history there were several experiments to make the process easier for the women, but it wasn't enforceable.
:: Ayiana then patted her belly. ::
Sevo: Then it stays inside our pouch for about a year. Its filled with a thick fluid that provides nutrients and immunological protection.
O’Malley: More or less the same as it is here.
:: Apparently Lilly had fallen asleep. ::
Sevo: The pouch is normally sealed until hormonal changes during pregnancy cause it to open. Males undergo the same process, presumably in anticipation of fatherhood. It’s also how the Symbiont enters our bodies; normally opened and closed through surgery.
O’Malley: It's quite interesting. And especially the part with the symbionts. Would there be problems if a joined trill gets pregnant? How is the influence at the fetus?
Sevo: Oh yea, it gets even more complicated with Joined. The mother has to keep up her nutrition intake, or both the fetus and the symbiont will become malnourished. It would also affect the incubation fluid. Once the baby is in our pouch, it tends to move around in there a lot. Makes sleeping hard. Or so my mother tells me.
O'Malley: ::Looking to Lilly:: She sleeps when she can, sleeping on her left side is the only way she could get some sleep but I don't know why she sleeps only two hours a night. The doctors looked at her but the didn't find anything.
:: A familiar voice suddenly boomed from behind. It was Commander Vess.::
Vess: The baby probably moves and she dunnae realize it.
::He pulled up a chair.::
Vess: ::Nodding to Sevo.:: Ayiana ::Then to the O’Malley’s.:: Frank, Lily.
Sevo: Hello, Commander.
:: Ayiana was still kind of sour about the whole inquiry thing. Vess had been there as well. ::
O’Malley: response
Vess: Babies usually sleep in 90-120 minute cycles. The wee one probably wakes up and kicks yeh, and that’s why yeh wake up so often. It happened a lot to Angie.
Sevo: Dunno how Trill babies do in there. According to our mother, Aleesia was doing gymnastics before she left the pouch!
O’Malley: response
Sevo: Well, at least for us, we can pass off the baby to daddy for some good night’s sleep. Their pouches work just the same.
:: Another familiar voice came from behind. ::
Bjarnadottir-Stoyer: Hello, Commander Vess. ::looking at Ayiana.:: Ayiana, ::the O’Malleys.:: Frank. Lily, how are you doing tonight?
Sevo: Hey.
Vess/O’Malleys: response
::Petra looked at Commander Vess.::
Bjarnadottir-Stoyer: Commander, No ill-effects from your rather spectacular entrance at the Foo Bar?
Vess/Sevo/O’Malleys: response
:: Ayiana blinked. ::
Sevo: Do I want to know what you’re talking about?
Vess/Bjarnadottir-Stoyer/O’Malleys: Response
Sevo: Sounds like typical Vess to me.
:: Ayiana grinned and took a sip of her wine. ::
Vess/Bjarnadottir-Stoyer/O’Malleys: Response
