The group had managed to stumble on a mysterious alcoholic drink which hadn’t gone down well with either of the Andorians nor Maezel. They’d all abandoned it, unappreciative of the taste and strength of the drink. Commander Sevo had managed to identify it as Aldebaran whiskey and seemed to be the only one able to stand the stuff. The drink had made Maezel remember another flavour she disliked.

Fenn: I remember! Absinthe. Vile stuff. Have any of you tried it?

Sevo: Not personally, but I’ve tried similar.

Sallia: I have, at a reception for the new art museum on Cestus III.  According to the assistant director, people used to think it made you crazy, and they outlawed it for a while. Turned out it was a myth created by the wine industry…

zh’Tisav: What was similar?

Sevo: Moonshine. Cory used to have a still making the stuff hidden in a storage room in Main Engineering, back when the ship was dry. Stuff could strip paint off the hull and put hair on your chest.

Maezel had heard of the alcohol ban aboard the Gorkon. She wasn’t sure what had precipitated such a measure but it had to have been bad if the alcohol had been whisked away. She’d met Crauw on the last shore leave and decided next time she saw him she’d ask about that. If anyone was able to share the gory details it would be him.

zh’Tisav: Uh, excuse me?

Fenn: ::confused:: Put hair on your chest…

Sevo: I have no idea what that last phrase means. This host can't grow chest hair. I think it's for the best.

Maezel kept quiet. She was too busy thinking hard about the connection between drinking a strong drink and putting hair on someone’s chest. Unable to connect the two ideas she put it down as one of those quirky human idioms whose meaning evaded everyone else in the Federation.

Sevo: But yea, moonshine. Vile stuff, but gets you hammered quick if you want to forget last week.

zh’Tisav: Wait, the storage room?  In Engineering?  I think I found some of the stuff.  There was a bottle, hidden behind a loose wall panel.  It had dried up but I could tell there was something in it that smelled odd.

Sevo: Response

Maezel continued to listen silently to this rather interesting piece of Gorkon history. The way her colleagues were speaking made it sound like a repeat of the American prohibition she’d learnt a little about while at the Academy.

zh’Tisav:  I tossed the bottle in the replicator.  I didn’t look further, but there might still be stuff hidden back there.

Sallia: Gods, how long has that been?

Fenn: Sounds like a while. How long ago was this exactly?

Sevo: Response

Sallia: I’ve always wanted to try making my own.

zh’Tisav: You’d probably end up poisoning yourself.  I’ve seen your old grades, remember?  Chemistry was not your strong suit.

Harsh. But Maezel considered that it was perhaps better to lean into one’s strengths and besides, if it was the science Sallia needed help with…

Sallia: It didn’t interest me.  ::Quieter.:: And I kicked your *ss in art.

Fenn: If chemistry isn’t your thing I can help with that. If we can find the ingredients I’m sure we can bring in Crauw to help put it together.

Sallia / Sevo / Zh’Tisav: Response

Fenn: It’ll all be above board. You never know, we might end up with a drink unique to the Gorkon.

Maezel quite liked the idea. She enjoyed a good drink as much as the next person. Not that she had a problem or anything. She really could stop any time. The irony of her thinking about this was not lost on her as she took receipt of another glass of Bolian champagne.

Sallia / Sevo / Zh’Tisav: Response

Fenn: Perhaps it’s just wishful thinking. It’s a nice idea though.
