(( Emerald Reef Hotel, Cochtois Lagoon, Deluvia IV ))
Vy’laa was extremely apprehensive about taking the submarine shuttle to Iyira. It all stemmed from his culture’s belief that the entrance to Hell lay at the bottom of the ocean. A belief that Vy’laa seemed to have taken to her core. She was trying to face the fear, but looked like she was having difficulty. Ayiana, Spelvan, and zh’Tisav were prepared to take a sub to the city, but the Andorian froze upon seeing them. The walls and ceiling of the passenger compartment was completely transparent. A feature that enticed most tourists, but caused a lot of anxiety for Vy’laa.
Ayiana entered first, followed by the other two. There were plenty of seats inside; only half were currently occupied. Sunlight filtering through the lagoon’s surface played along the interior of the submarine, bathing it in a light blue, ever-moving color. She found a trio of seats open.
Sevo: I…uh…don’t suppose you want the window seat, Vy’laa?
Vylaa glanced around at the all-encompassing window, tilting an antenna as if to say “Are you serious?”
zh’Tisav: Aren’t they all window seats?
A gentle chime sounded, followed by a crisp announcement in a female’s voice, speaking in both the musical-sounding Pacifican and Federation Standard.
Announcer: Final boarding call for Transport 47 to Iyira city.
Sevo: Here we go. Last chance to escape the boat to Hell!
Right after she said it, Ayiana realized it was probably the wrong thing to say. Vy’laa gave her a decidedly deadly gaze while breathing in sharply. Her blue cheeks turned a bright shade of purple.
Spelvan: Let's skip the trip to Hell today, shall we? Perhaps we can try the sub ride for the return trip.
Sevo: Probably for the best.
Ayiana followed Spelvan out and to the hotel’s transporter hub. A quick punch of their destination, and they soon materialized kilometers away in the capital city of Iyira.
((Downtown Iyira, Deluvia IV))
They materialized to a completely different vista. The place was large and quite open. The first thing Ayiana noticed was the lack of terrestrial streets. Instead, the traveling thoroughfares were bridges and easements along the coral trench at different heights in the ocean , the nooks and crannies of which were filled with businesses and lodgings. The coral grew to enormous heights, giving them a look of organic skyscrapers (or surface-scrapers? What was the equivalent called underwater?).
Spelvan: What a fascinating city.
zh’Tisav: Definitely not in L’Uvan anymore...
Sevo: It’s amazing.
Suddenly, Ayiana heard a stomach growling. She placed her hand on her abdomen, but didn’t feel it herself. She looked over to see it was actually Spelvan. She followed him with his PADD open revealing a map of the city. They quickly found a small shop in the side of the coral wall selling sea wraps. Ayiana chose something with fish. Once everyone had consumed some portions of their meals, they found a place to sit.
Spelvan: ::to Sevo:: You mentioned you were a scientist - what is your speciality? ::he nodded to Vl'yaa:: I hope you are feeling better.
zh’Tisav: A little, thanks.
Sevo: Subspace Mechanics, Quantum Mechanics, and soon, Temporal Mechanics, as soon as my dissertation is approved.
zh’Tisav: Interesting. I’m afraid I don’t keep current with much outside of warp theory. I much prefer practical applications.
Sevo: I prefer the theoretical; pushing the boundaries of knowledge. I may know how warp works theoretically, but have no idea how to properly build a warp engine.
Spelvan: response
zh’Tisav: Just give me something to fix. ::She glanced at Spelvan.:: I suppose that’s a bit like medicine; people get sick, and you fix them…
Sevo: It’s probably a bit more complicated, but I can see the similarity.
Spelvan: response
Ayiana was sitting facing the open chasm that served as the throughway for the district. She took some time to take in the view, which was spectacular. The walkways and storefronts were enclosed in air-retaining forcefields to accommodate terrestrial visitors; really anyplace the public was allowed. The rest was filled with the ocean within which the city was built. Think of the air pockets and tunnels as holes in cheese, of which the rest was water.
In the water, Selkies and other aquatic people swam along designated “lanes” marked by floating buoys at various levels. There were a number of terrestrials equipped with underwater gear flitting through as well, either freely swimming or aided by scuba scooters. Interspersed were vehicle “lanes” through which watercraft swam; everything from submarine buses to delivery trucks. The entire place was nearly a kilometer high and almost reached the surface of the water, through which sunlight broke through, bathing the area in a cyan ambiance.
Sevo: I can’t help but notice the architecture and engineering involved in this place.
zh’Tisav / Spelvan: Response
Sevo: Imagine the planning required to engineer a place for both aquatic and terrestrial people. No easy feat.
zh’Tisav / Spelvan: Response
Sevo: There’s so much to see. What should we do next?
She glanced at her empty plate; she was satisfyingly full with that meal and would last her for the afternoon.
