JP LtCmdr Chythar Skyfire and Cmdr Alucard Vess: Hearing Difficulties

::Chythar hated medical facilities when he was a patient in them. Mostly because the diagnoses were performed by people he didn’t know. As much as he hated the idea of being unable to diagnose and treat himself, he was at least given the option to select his own physician, and selected the only one he trusted amongst the Gorkon’s crew: Alucard Vess, the Gorkon’s former CMO.::

Skyfire: Good to see you again, doc. What’s up?

::Alucard looked up from the PADD he was reading.  On it was loaded the medical files of all of the Gorkon’s surviving crew.  He had sent Chythar a message earlier, but hadn’t expected him so soon.  In fact, he was just getting ready to go and visit some of the crew when the doctor had stepped through the door.::

Vess: Hey.  Been reading up on yer most recent physical.

Skyfire: Well, I knew it was only a matter of time before that came up again. Message said this was a follow-up?

Vess: Yeah, yer hearing dinna quiet bounce back like it did last time, and Ah’m concerned.

Skyfire: Okay...Open to suggestions.

Vess: Well, we can try a course of anti-inflammatories like we did before, but Ah fear it willna do as much good.  As yer well aware, hearing damage is cumulative.

Skyfire: Aye, truth. ::He nodded grimly, but this was expected.::

::Alucard tapped a few controls on his PADD and held it up so that Skyfire could see.  On the small screen was a diagram of a small device.::

Vess: At some point, yeh’ll require a surgical intervention.  Are yeh familiar with the EARS device?

::He gave Chythar ample time to process that.  It was a big step he was suggesting and could not be taken lightly.::

Skyfire: Aye. Familiar in principle, but never came into use either installed or otherwise. Wouldn’t that look just a bit weird?

Vess: If yer worried about esthetics, the current model is small enough it willna be detectable by most casual observers.  Yer hair is long enough to cover it.

::Chythar blew a strand of his now long hair from his face, and grimaced at the possibility of surgery. He was a physician, and didn’t have any problems performing them. When it came to requiring them, that was another matter.::

Skyfire: So my choices basically are either the anti-inflammatories, or the surgery?

::Alucard grimaced in sympathy.::

Vess: Yeah, pretty much.

Skyfire: oO Damn. Oo Okay. Can I have a few days to think it over?

Vess: Of course.

::It wasn’t like him to be nervous about surgeries, but then again...he usually wasn’t the patient in those contexts either. This experience, much like the corrective wrist surgery he had to undergo, was humbling and almost humiliating at the same time.::

Skyfire: I’ll call you back once I’ve considered it.

Vess: Take as long as yeh need.

::Chythar made his way out of the exam room and headed off. He still had calls to make and people to find.::
