((Deck 18, USS Gorkon))

The Gorkon shuddered as she took another hit, and Meru braced herself against the wall as the deck shook. A red alert bathed the corridor in flashes of hellish light, and she gritted her teeth. There’d been a fair number of injuries already, and her group had been dealing with them. Assist, triage, and send them off to their muster station or get them to sickbay as needed. They’d just finished helping the last crewman to secondary sickbay, but there wasn’t a chance to catch their breaths.

Borg Cube: =/\= Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated. =/\=

Ah, the cheery, uplifting soundtrack of a red alert siren and Borg threats. For the first time in her Starfleet career—actually, in her life—she had a phaser set to kill, though she hoped she wouldn’t have to use it.

Marshall: =/\= Bridge to Commander Tahna, what's your status? =/\=

The chirp had her standing to attention on instinct. Jo’s voice cut through the noise and confusion, and Meru tapped her combadge to reply.

Tahna: =/\= We’ve stabilized folks down here, what’s the news? =/\=

Nera / Pace / Solkon: =/\= Response =/\=

Marshall: =/\= Potential boarding action coming our way. Priority is to get the civilians in the science labs on decks sixteen and seventeen to a safe, defendable location. =/\=

Defendable. The fight wasn’t going well, then. And civilians…pahna, the civilians. If it was only a matter of time before the Borg boarded…could they even be stopped if they did? She had to trust security would find a way, she just needed to keep folks alive long enough for it to matter.

Tahna: =/\= We’ll get it done, Commander. It isn’t over ‘til it’s over. =/\=

Nera / Pace / Solkon: =/\= Response =/\=

The channel closed, and Meru turned to look at her team. Elaysian, Vulcan, Bajoran…all ensigns on their first assignment. Such was a life in Starfleet, she supposed.

There was a human term she’d grown quite familiar with—deja vu. Last time she’d done search and rescue through the science labs, she was the junior officer, and they’d only been facing their own waking nightmares.

Bentel, she’d take that over the Borg any day. But it wasn’t a choice.

Tahna: Turbolift. We’ll start on seventeen and work our way up.

Nera / Pace / Solkon: Response

Meru headed for the turbolift, one hand on her phaser (still felt weird, uncomfortable).

Tahna: Any thoughts on our defendable location?

Nera / Pace / Solkon: Response

Where could possibly be defended against the Borg? By a couple scientists and doctors and some civilians, no less? One thing at a time, though, they still had to get to the civilians.

Tahna: The maintenance hangar isn’t one of the best defensive positions on the ship, but it does have the advantage of being close by.

Nera / Pace / Solkon: Response
