(( Park - Lower vIq'mItlh City))
The team was at last going somewhere at least theoretically pleasant since Spelvan had arrived – to a park to determine their next steps. They had finally gotten the chance to scan the drug they had acquired in the bar, and Spelvan had found traces of borodium in their sample. Why it was there in the drug was unknown, but it did make the drugs easier to trace.
The park was close by and did have, as the security officer offered, large trees with wide, broad leaves that offered some cover from prying eyes. Spelvan wondered what kind of trees they might be – perhaps genetically altered to thrive in such shadowy, wet conditions.
The Vulcan stood under one, with the rest of the team somewhat shielding him from view.
Spelvan: I will scan for the boridium. Please, keep an eye out.
Auricsdóttir: What does it look like?
Tahna: It’s a metal, but it’s not very distinctive looking. You wouldn’t be able to identify it on sight alone.
Neathler: Response
Spelvan took out his tricorder and began scanning the local area for the traceable element. It didn't take him long to find what he was looking for.
Spelvan: ::putting his tricorder away:: I have found two locations that have a large amount of boridium. One area to the east seems to be in an industrial area, in a building that appears to be a warehouse. The second area to the north looks to be in a residential district. It could be in someone's home or possibly a business. ::pause:: We must now choose which place to investigate.
Neathler: Response
Auricsdóttir: A house cannot hold as many Klingons as a warehouse.
Tahna: Nor can it hold as many drugs.
Though Astrid's observation was statistically factual, it was much less likely for more Klingons to be in a warehouse than in a house – especially if it was an abandoned, illicit storehouse. Such a place would be more likely to be sparingly staffed to avoid arousing suspicion from the authorities – unless, of course, the authorities were involved. In that case...
Spelvan took a deep sigh to center himself. It would do no good to go down hypothetical rabbit-holes. He glanced at their Bajoran commander, who was looking thoughtful.
Tahna: How much is it picking up at the second location, Doctor?
Spelvan: ::taking out his tricorder again to examine the data he had found earlier:: Fascinating. It appears to be scattered piecemeal throughout the building. It could be that the people responsible for the operation are hiding the drugs in an active, reputable business.
Neathler: Response
Auricsdóttir: Should we have the Gorkon beam up the sample? Having it on us could make us a target if it is known.
Spelvan nodded. The idea made a lot of sense. They had gotten everything they could from the drug here and it would likely be of more use on the Gorkon, with its laboratory facilities and equipment.
Tahna: Send the sample to the Gorkon’s labs. Have them run a full biochemical and medical analysis of it, and share anything they learn with the clinic in the city. Maybe we can get a head start on helping those overdose cases.
Spelvan: Yes sir. ::pulling out the sample from his pocket and tapping his comm:: =/\= Dr. Spelvan to Science Lab 22. We have a drug specimen to beam up. Please run full biochemical and medical analysis and send any findings to the main clinic in lower vIq'mItlh. =/\=
He received an affirmative and a moment later, the sample dematerialized in his hand. The Vulcan hoped that the lab's findings would be useful to the clinic – and subsequently, any victims of the drug effects. Addiction recovery was still a long process, but the correct treatment could go a long way..
Auricsdóttir / Neathler: Response
Tahna appeared to be considering their options again. There was a confidence in her that Spelvan admired – admired in the whole group, in fact. His first real assignment had not been exactly pleasant so far, but the company was amiable at least.
Tahna: Make a note of the second location, but let’s check out the warehouse. Maybe it’s the crux of this whole operation.
Auricsdóttir / Neathler: Response
Spelvan: We won't know for sure until we investigate.
Spelvan had not been keen on the idea of going to someone's house in any case – he had had enough risky social interaction for one evening.
(( Outside of Warehouse - Lower vIq'mItlh City))
The warehouse was among a number of large, boxy buildings in a business park on the more industrial park of town. A slightly foul-smelling smog had settled down in the air as they entered the area. Spelvan suppressed a cough.
oO Though not ideal, this is better than an overcrowded tavern. Oo
The warehouse in question that the doctor had traced the drug to had a large sign in front with Klingon written on – and a drawing of a fruit or vegetable of some kind. Interesting. He understood that Klingons were famous for eating meat, but produce was an important part of most humanoid diets. The front entrance was dimly lit with a worn awning over it, and two security guards standing at attention.
Spelvan: This is the place. ::pause:: Which route should we take? According to my scan there are loading docks at the back of the building. If we had the proper disguises I would suggest pretending to be inspectors, as I believe it is unlikely that the authorities are involved at this location.
Auricsdóttir / Neathler / Tahna: Response
It did not mean, of course, that the authorities were not involved at all, of course, but the drug being scattered throughout the warehouse seemed indicative that it was hidden away here rather than a direct manufacturing operation.
Suddenly, Spelvan's ears pricked up as he heard a noise. Footsteps – whether it was a person or beast it was unclear, but they were headed right for the group and fast.
The Vulcan stood perfectly still – if it was an animal, sudden movements could spook it.
Spelvan: I do not mean to alarm you all, but something is coming.
