((The Vineknot, Gateside Dimension))

Within the darkness of the botanical canopy, Lieutenant Pace had visually identified a dense layer of moss coating the surrounding vines. However, the ambient extra-dimensional radiation continued to interfere with sensor readings, rendering active tricorder scans highly unreliable. To circumvent this, V'Lar had queried whether a passive spectral analysis might be an option, earning a strong endorsement from her colleague who immediately began working on her tricorder.

V'Lar stepped back a fraction and angled her shoulder illuminator, allowing the Science Officer an unobstructed and clear line of sight, observing the efficiency with which the Elaysian modified her tricorder before running a scan.

V'Lar: Do your readings match those of the sample encountered in the laboratory?

Pace: Yes they do, doctor. I wonder why it’s so dense here though…

TahnaResponse

V'Lar: The sample within the outpost was isolated and likely deprived of optimal environmental conditions. Given how well it thrives here, we can infer that this environment presents highly optimal biological conditions, and is likely its native ecosystem.

Without warning, a tremor vibrated through the dense root system beneath their boots. V'Lar gracefully adjusted her stance, immediately lowering her centre of gravity to compensate. She observed the Elaysian almost lose her footing before rapidly correcting her own stance.

Pace: Uh, the scientists are on the move again… are they coming this way?

TahnaResponse

V'Lar checked her tricorder, mindful that the exotic radiation saturating the area might cause inaccurate readings. She brought the device closer to her torso, physically stabilising the display as she studied the data.

V'Lar: These readings appear erratic. While the distance between us is decreasing, the velocity seems inconsistent with typical bipedal locomotion, especially given the terrain and lighting conditions. If our readings are correct, it is highly probable that the xenoflora, or some other as yet unidentified lifeform, is physically transporting the transponder signal. Lieutenant, can you utilise your spectral analysis to determine if the vines in that relative direction are actively shifting?

Pace/TahnaResponse

While V'Lar was aware of the fact that their sensor readings could be in error, it was statistically unlikely that their combined readings would not just be incorrect, but incorrect in the same way. Though they had only been in the area for a brief duration, V'Lar felt it prudent to consider why they were observing what appeared to be such rapid and unexpected movement and whether there was any link to their presence.

V'Lar: If the structural vines are indeed in motion, we must consider the catalyst for this sudden activity. It is statistically possible that our artificial light sources, despite their low yield, have triggered a phototactic response. If this environment acts as a predatory organism, we may have inadvertently designated our coordinates. Remaining exposed would seem tactically unsound.

The prospect of being actively hunted by a massive, irradiated botanical predator would invoke a fear response in most intelligent species. V'Lar, however, experienced no such distraction.

oO There is no fear to process, only the logical requirement to reposition before such a threat arrives. Oo
