((USS Gorkon, Deck 4, Holodeck 6 - Program: Tiffany's Diner))

The Vulcan doctor and Elaysian science officer had met in the holodeck at a 1950s-esque American diner, and were shortly joined by the Admiral. Their discussion had veered to plans for shore leave, and the Admiral had mentioned her intentions to visit some gormaganders that the Gorkon had rescued in this area several years earlier.

Spelvan: You stated you rescued the gormaganders? That must be an intriguing story.

Pace: I’d love to hear it, if you wouldn’t mind sharing!

Reynolds: I don't mind at all, but I'm afraid it's a second-hand story. I wasn't actually there myself.

Spelvan: If I may be so forward, could we join you, Admiral? ::to Pace:: Assuming, that is, that you would also like to visit them.

Pace: ::She nodded vigorously.:: Absolutely! If you wouldn’t mind company, Admiral!

Reynolds: By all means. ::She nodded.:: I'll let you know when I've arranged the visit.

Pace was eager to ask about the gormaganders, and Spelvan was more than happy to let her lead the conversation.

Pace: So these Gormaganders, where did you find them?

Reynolds: In the Bratax solar system, just outside of Federation space. They were a freighter transporting live animals to a Ferengi company. Species GS54—lightning bugs—had infested the ship, and they'd drained so much power it lost containment on all the enclosures. The gormaganders and quite a few of the other creatures escaped.

Spelvan: That seems like an unfortunate circumstance.

Pace: Whoa, and then you were able to rescue them?

The Admiral nodded, continuing her story.

Reynolds: An away team boarded the ship to assess the situation. In the end, they used a probe with an energy pulse as bait to draw the lightning bugs out of the ship, then we were able to restore power and contain the escapees. The ones that breathe atmosphere, anyway. ::She smiled.:: The Gorkon escorted the gormaganders here.

Spelvan: An energy pulse is an innovative solution.

Pace: Response

"Innovative solutions" seemed to be the bread and butter of a career in Starfleet, and Spelvan was, he supposed, becoming part of that legacy already. He thought back to their previous mission and how he and his team members had had to think creatively to not only meet their mission objectives, but to get out of some tight spots. It was only logical to assume that this trend would continue for as long as Spelvan served on the Gorkon, and beyond.

Reynolds: It won't be long before you have a book of war stories of your own. ::She offered them a wry smile.:: Hold on to that sense of wonder. It'll serve you well.

Spelvan: Thank you - I will make a conscious attempt.

Pace: Response

A sense of wonder - not something generally valued very highly in Vulcan society. But such an attitude served a logical purpose, in Spelvan's opinion. Curiosity and persistence often led to new discoveries that reaped benefits for everyone.

Spelvan: ::He waved a hand at their surroundings.:: I understand this program was created by former officers? It is a rather unique venue.

Pace / Reynolds: Response

Spelvan: Interesting. Are there any other locations of note either of you would recommend visiting on-ship? Since I have not been here very long, I am afraid I have not "explored" the Gorkon properly yet.

Since getting back from their mission, Spelvan had spent a lot of time planetside - and then there was the integration into day-to-day life. Decorating his quarters, going over expectations for Sickbay shifts and duties... all fairly dull things.
