((USS Gorkon, Deck 4, Holodeck 6 - Program: Tiffany's Diner))

The admiral, science officer and doctor were enjoying their time in the holodeck at the diner. Reynolds had asked Spelvan a fact about himself that was not his in his Starfleet record, and he had told his companions the story of how he became interested in becoming a doctor and joining Starfleet as a child.

Spelvan: ::He paused, before adding one more final note.:: It is also around that time that I began learning the art of suus mahna — our martial arts, as part of my recovery. I would be willing to teach either of you some of the basic techniques, if you are interested.

Pace: I would definitely be interested!

Reynolds: ::She chuckled.:: Thank you, but no. I couldn't find the time, and I'd be a terrible student. But if you wanted to run a class, I'm sure you'd find plenty of interested people.

Spelvan: Thank you. Perhaps I will host a demonstration before our shore leave is complete.

Pace: I don’t have much martial arts experience at all, but I was in a roller derby league while at the Academy. ::She paused in thought.:: While not a martial art, it could get pretty martial for sure.

Reynolds: I looked into roller derby after our conversation. ::She shot Pace a small grin.:: I'd say that's a very apt way of describing it.

Spelvan had no idea what roller derby was, and the phrase frustratingly did not give the Vulcan enough context clues to guess at what it could be, other than a sport of some kind. A race with wheels, perhaps?

Spelvan: I confess I am not familiar with roller derby, though I had heard about it as a sport at the Academy.

Pace: What about you, Admiral? Have any favorite sports?

The question appeared to take the Admiral by surprise - it was likely she did not consider herself the athletic type. Spelvan was not particularly athletic himself and had not participated in any sports at the Academy, but suus-mahna at least was important to him.

Reynolds: I play tennis and springball regularly and exceptionally poorly, if that counts. ::She smiled wryly.:: I'm much better at strategy games like Go and Kal-toh.

Spelvan: Kal-toh? We should play a match someday. If you would be amenable, that is.

Pace: Response

Though of course the Admiral was a busy woman, and likely not to have the time to spare in the near future, the thought of playing with her was intriguing.

Reynolds: I've never really been one for physical pursuits. I much preferred tinkering and reading and so forth. ::Music, too, but that was something she preferred to keep more private.:: My lightship's getting closer to spaceworthiness, although I haven't had much time to work on it recently.

Spelvan: A lightship? It appears that we have several "tinkerers" on the Gorkon.

Pace: Response

Not that that was a bad thing - though of course, it was not a very Vulcan thing. Vulcan hobbies were considered worthwhile, but they often tended to be intense, logical endeavors, like the game of kal-toh.

Still, Spelvan could appreciate those who were engineers like Doz, who always seemed to have a project or two she was working on, or Vylaa, who clearly liked experimenting in that vein as well.

Spelvan: Have you built the lightship entirely yourself, or have you been doing it with someone else?

Pace / Reynolds: Response

Such an endeavor as building a ship from scratch seemed daunting to Spelvan - though the Admiral seemed the determined sort.

Spelvan: I see. I hope you have the time to finish it eventually.

Pace / Reynolds: Response

He turned back to Pace. He had been ruminating on what roller derby could be, and decided he did not want to wait to look it up on his own. The science officer, he figured, would be more than happy to explain it to him.

Spelvan: So what does roller derby entail, exactly?

Pace / Reynolds: Response
