(( Shuttle - Above the tree line - Væron ))
Samira got up stretching her legs and approached the front of the shuttle, standing between the two seats one hand on each of them as she looked out the viewscreen and so was Corliss resting her chin in her hand. The lake glistening in different kinds of blue and green in the distance. She tilted her head as saw some movement in the corner of her eye. There in the red treetops further ahead, tiny moving dots. She kept her eye on them as those dots got bigger as they approached, waving at them. She frowned, now recognizing the animals as monkeylike creatures, yet they weren't waving at them at all. It was only when she heard the impact of something small hitting the outer hull of the shuttle, she realized the animals were throwing things in their direction. The action of the animals causing a little jump from the counsellor on her right.
Fortune: What-
Shryn: Response
Fortune: They're throwing rocks at us?!
Rocks seemed out of the question unless this planet housed rock carrying trees and yet she could hear a dull bump now and then. She was about to say something when a stick bounced off against the viewscreen without a scratch.
Neathler: Whatever it is, I don't think they're liking our presence here.
Shryn: Response
Fortune: Animals don't usually make spears, though...
As if the animals had heard Corliss' words, it was as if they sped up things a bit, more rocks and now also including various fruits and even flowers and leaves joined in the mix, leaving all colorful stripes on the viewscreen.
Fortune: ::Hesitating.:: ...well. Um. I think we should get a little higher up away from them...?
Samira nodded in agreement but it was only when she realized Andorians, just like most species couldn't see what was happening behind their back, that she gave the verbal command.
Neathler: Take us a few metres higher mister Shryn.
Shryn: Response
Fortune: At least now we know what 'unusual behaviour' could mean.
Neathler: Glad we've got a few centimetres of tritanium between us and them. ::As they were now approaching the lake, she grinned.:: Maybe we should take the shuttle for a dive in the lake, give it a wash.
Shryn: Response
She looked at the map on the console, now that they ruled out one way of whatever was causing the odd behaviour with the animals, they could start scanning the rest of the affected region.
Neathler: Take us to the science complex and give it a quick run over, mister Shryn. See if something sticks out before we start our search pattern.
Shryn: Response
Neathler: Counsellor did the reports show any indication that whatever is causing the aggression with the wildlife could affect humans?
Fortune: Response
Samira hadn't seen anything confirmed in the data she had been reading either but she had been focussed on other parts of the reports so she could have easily missed something. Still standing behind the two front seats, she waited as the shuttle did a few tours over the science complex. It was a rectangular, grey, building, a transparent dome at the top, from what Samira gathered, three storage high complex. She figured standing inside the vault, must give a great view on the treetops.
She was about to return to her own seat when a dark cloud in a rather odd shape caught her attention. Didn't they have clear weather for this region? Her gaze focussed on the cloud which just seemed to get bigger and bigger and was heading their way. It was as if the cloud was connected with the treetops when she suddenly realized what it was. Huge, black birds raising from the treetops and joined their comrades in the cloud which was actually a huge flock of birds.
Neathler: Avoid that cloud if you can mister Shryn.
Flying fruits and sticks or spears was one thing, a flock of living beings was something totally different. As if they had heard her plea, it seemed as if the flock was closing in faster and soon their view outside was blocked with the dark, flying beings as the shuttle was enveloped by the creatures.
Fortune/Shryn: Response
Suddenly something massive, obviously not a bird, hit them, sending a shudder through their craft and everything inside went dark. The inner lighting, displays, consoles, none were functioning and Samira could feel the shuttle rapidly losing altitude. Her grip on the two seats in front of her tightened as the shuttle descended, sliding between treetops and later on the tree trunks themselves, hitting them and she heard the wooden creatures break from the impact with the shuttle. The craft's descend speeding up as the planet's gravity got a grip on their vehicle. Around her she could hear trees and metal shrieking. Suddenly things inside were a bit more visible as the flock of birds ascended back to the sky, as if their job here was done. Yet the only thing she saw through the viewscreen was thick trunks of trees, and the planet's surface rapidly closing in on them.
Neathler: Brace yourselves!
The next moment the shuttle collided hard with the surface and Samira lost her grip on the two seats in front of her, the impact tossing her further in the shuttle, she landed on her back, the air knocked out of her lungs. She covered her ears to keep out the shrieking sound of breaking and tearing metal as if that would stop the crash that was occurring. This wasn't happening, was it? Not again?
Yet the impact with the planet hadn't stopped the shuttle as the vehicle slid further through the soil, taking more trees and shrubs down with it, gliding further down the red earth, dirt and tiny rocks when the craft suddenly crashed against a rocky outcrop and came to a full stop. The sound of tearing metal and breaking wood suddenly coming to a halt, an unearthly silence surrounding them. Samira swallowed hard, hardly daring to move, she lowered her hands from her covered ears.
Neathler: You two okay?
Fortune/Shryn: Response
