((QIn’HuD Mines, veHrom’nagh))
With confirmation, though from an untrustworthy source, that their missing heirs were alive, the investigation brought them to the QIn’HuD mines belonging to Ruktah’s family. J’nara’s necklace hid a teleportation relay, when paired with a computer chip found inside the chambers, led to these mines. After the firefight in the pounding thunderstorm, these dry caves were a welcome respite to Laika.
Basso: Where do we even start?
Laika programmed a trail onto her tricorder to follow their path and lead them back to the elevator. These would be a luxury in her past spelunking adventures.
Finch: Well! We can either follow our instinct or see if there is any evidence of the heirs having been here. Any clues, any points of interest, perhaps a cavern or something like that.
She glanced down at her map hoping a clue would scream out at her. If she were a Klingon royal caught in a love affair, where would she hide within the mine? With Gnaxac scanning the area, she hoped he would have better luck than her.
Gnaxac: Nothing in this area; b-b-but maybe they transported further in.
Basso: True. They would know this area better than us.
Pace: Response
The emptiness and solitude juxtaposed with the scattered mining equipment brought memories of getting lost in a cave as a child. While this time she had a tricorder along with a team of professionals, one wrong turn could lead to her getting separated.
Finch: Let’s start walking in this direction shall we? We can run scans along the way.
With Finch’s lead, Basso followed quickly behind, keeping the map ready.
Gnaxac: Sure thing!
Basso: Understood.
Pace / Finch: Response
As they traversed further into the mines, Laika’s attention darted between the map and the mining infrastructure within. Most of the formations of the tunnels were naturally formed given the size and structure; however, the Klingons professionally excavated deeper into the stone.
Gnaxac: This mining t-t-tech is impressive.
Basso: They spared no expense. I don’t know what they are mining for, but to operate one at this scale must be valuable.
Pace / Finch: Response
Basso: Most of these caves are naturally forming, though they did create artificial tunnels throughout this complex. See on the map, they listed core samples taken and at which depth. The artificial tunnels must have been created to reach deposits faster.
While she lectured on the mining practices, she waved her hand around with a smile. The QIn’HuD operation fascinated the young ensign.
Gnaxac / Finch / Pace: Response
Not too far within the tunnel, a horrid stench wafted through the air paired with a crackling sound.
Basso: Agh, what is that smell?
Gnaxac / Finch / Pace: Response
