The evening walk along the beach continued. The conversation had drifted to home and then to where the ship might be headed next. Maezel hoped it was somewhere tropical like Deluvia as she could certainly get used to the tropical paradise locale.
Fenn: Personally, I hope it’s somewhere as nice as here.
Marshall: We only get that lucky if someone's gravely injured or there's some diplomacy to do and everyone needs a mai tai to relax afterwards.
E. Reynolds: Response
Neathler: I think we can all do with some real fresh air after being stuck on the ship for months. ::She looked sideways towards Fenn.:: Or it’s something you’ll discover after a while.
Maezel’s thoughts drifted to her mother’s interruptions to her lab work back home. When she’d worked with the family business she’d spend hours upon hours in the labs working on whatever project she was assigned to. There had been multiple times when her mother
had practically thrown her out of the lab to get some fresh air and, to quote one semi-mean human at the academy, ‘touch grass’.
Fenn: ::meeting Neathler’s gaze:: Happy to. It’ll mean I’ve settled into something I love doing.
Neathler: Do you always have material to draw on with you Maezel?
Fenn: I do. I never know when I’m going to see a plant or creature I haven’t seen before and while photos and scans are great for the lab, drawing them is something I enjoy on a personal level.
Neathler: I don’t think I’d have the patience, especially with animals and nature. Animals don’t sit still and even the colours in nature change during the day.
It was true that the plants and animals she liked to draw could be the worst subjects. Though if nothing else, it taught Maezel how to be patient and that, like her lab work, good results take time, skill and effort.
Fenn: ::chuckling:: I know what you mean but you get used to it.
Neathler: Still, it’s an admirable hobby to have, I’m afraid mine involve a bit more action. If you’re an early bird you can catch me running in the corridors.
Maezel noticed Commander Neathler had slowed her pace a little. With a quick glance behind them, she saw that Erin and Commander Marshall had fallen behind a little. It looked like a private conversation though she couldn’t hear the words so she slowed to match Neathler’s pace
in the hopes they would catch up eventually.
Fenn: ::turning back to Neathler:: If you like Commander, I can draw the three of you. It shouldn’t take too long to do a rough sketch.
E. Reynolds / Marshall / Neathler: Response
Fenn: I guess when the other two catch up we can see what they want to do.
