((Dockyards, Orbital Ring))

With Klingons trapped behind a superheated hatch, the team discussed their options. Tahlira herself spat out every idea she could think of, hoping beyond hope that they'd figure something out. The thought of more deaths was unbearable. Tahlira gasped as she thought of what might well be their best option.

Deyari: Wait, can we use the workbees? They're meant for dealing with structural problems, they've got to have some sort of lines that can attach to the hatch, or something!

Marshall: That's as good an idea as any. What do you think, Vylaa?

zh’Tisav: It could work.  My worry is that metal is so hot it won’t break, but buckle.  We could just end up with a giant blister on the side of the building.

Marshall: If the joints swell, yes, it could. But it'd need to be significantly hotter for that to happen, with ample force applied.

Frustration and desperation growing, Tahlira began to pace, one hand raking through her hair idly.

Deyari: What do we do then?

zh’Tisav: The Ensign’s first suggestion hold’s the best chances, but we need to change it up.  If we cool it rapidly, it’ll enter thermal shock and crack like an egg.  Problem is the standard firefighting agents can’t do it rapidly enough, not in the quantities we have available.  We need water, and lot’s of it.  Like from a water main.

Tahlira found herself slightly miffed at Vylaa’s addressal of her. oO “The Ensign” has a name… Oo

Marshall: Diverting a water main would give us volume, but it's a big if.

Deyari: So there's two viable options.

zh’Tisav: Only time for one, though.

Marshall: Time we don't have.

Tahlira’s gaze bounced between the other two women. It was obvious that the discussion was now over, and by Vylaa's stature, she was deferring the final decision to Commander Marshall, obviously. Tahlira was grateful that she was just “The Ensign”, because she didn't want to have to make the call.

Deyari: Commander? ::prompting::

Marshall seemed to snap to, and Tahlira could see she'd come to a decision. Which option would she choose? Using the workbee to try and rip out the hatch, or use water to supercool the hatch and hope to crack it open?

Marshall: Find the nearest water main, see if you can rig it. If it works, we can douse the hatch and shock it open.

zh’Tisav: Got it.

Operation Waterworks, then. Tahlira readied herself, already thinking about how the water could be diverted when found, and how-

Marshall turned to face her, and Tahlira faltered.

Marshall: We'll prep the workbee, using the grapples to rip the hatch off its runners once it cools.

Deyari: A two fold operation! ::dawning comprehension::

Marshall: We'll drown it, cool it, crack it, and drag them out before the section evacuates. Let's move.

Deyari: Aye, Commander!

Tahlira watched Vylaa take off, and then turned on her heel. She led the way back to the workbee, which was a good sprint away. Luckily, the majority of the Klingon firefighters had moved on to other areas, fighting other catastrophes and evacuating from the area.

Having a bit of practice with the workbee now, Tahlira didn't hesitate at all as she thrust herself into the cockpit. She ensured Commander Marshall was aboard, and then lifted the vehicle off the ground quickly. As she angled the craft toward the superheated hatch, she pulled up the mag winch controls. Luckily, they weren't complicated. There was even a launch system for easily catapulting the magnetic foot toward whatever load needed to be lifted.

Deyari: I'm ready, we just need the water.

Marshall: response

Tahlira sat forward in the pilot seat, looking around to find Vylaa. The craft drifted idly, and Tahlira reached out to stabilize it. She found Vylaa near a large pipe, seemingly calculating the angle the contents would shoot off in when she punctured the barrier.

zh’Tisav: Here comes the rain!

Marshall: response

The Andorian severed the water main with a well aimed phaser burst. The result was immediate and concussive. Water jetted out at high pressure, hitting the hatch head on. Tahlira saw Vylaa stabilize herself, and was momentarily worried that she'd have to try and catch her with the workbee. But that wasn't needed, Tahlira saw, as the blue giant anchored herself with a quick grab.

zh’Tisav: It’s working!  Get ready to pull!

Marshall: response

Deyari: Deploying the mag winch!

Using the control system, Tahlira took aim. The screen showed the hatch overlayed by a cross hair, which made the aiming simple. She adjusted slightly, and then pressed the actuator. The winch burst forward with force, rocking the workbee backward several feet. The magnetic foot slammed into the hatch and was immediately doused with the water, which knocked it away.

Deyari: Damn! I was too direct, I didn't get it.

Marshall/zh’Tisav: Response

Already retracting the winch, Tahlira cursed under her breath. The cable retracted so quickly that the winch slammed into its launcher at high velocity, knocking the workbee back another several feet. Tahlira repositioned the craft and readied the mag winch.

Deyari: Trying again.

She fired. The magnetic foot impacted higher on the hatch, not directly in the stream of water. It snapped into place, the high powered magnet engaging.

Deyari: Good connection!

Marshall/zh’Tisav: Response

Tahlira was already turning the craft around. The cable tautened up, and the workbee jolted. She started off with low torque, afraid of the hatch separating and the workbee sailing into a wall at high speed. The workbee strained, a low whine building at the connection point between vehicle and cable.

Deyari: I'm increasing power.

The hatch fractured spectacularly. It broke apart in large pieces and the workbee jolted forward. Tahlira had to react quickly to avoid the craft slamming into the far bulkhead. The cable whipped around at high speed, a hulking chunk of hatch still attached. Tahlira fought to control the vehicle, which spun in the air as the hatch piece careened off the far wall. She deactivated the magnet, and the chunk of hatch flew off as Tahlira regained control of the workbee.

Marshall/zh’Tisav: Response
