((Aithela Cove, Deluvia IV))

Meru wanted to get to know the Gorkon's newer crew members, but it was shore leave, and she knew some folks were more prone to work through their leave than others (she was often one of them). So she'd sent an informal invitation to one of the ship's new doctors, informing her of the bioluminescent cove. So here they were, two strangers, though hopefully not for long.

Tahna: Just Tahna is fine. ::She smiled.:: We're not working tonight.

V'Lar: You believe correctly... Tahna.

Tahna: I hope you're settling in well?

V'Lar: I believe I am carrying out my duties to an acceptable standard Commander. If you would like I could provide a report on my activities since my transfer. In addition to my regular duties I am conducting research into a potential cure for Yarim Fel Syndrome as well as authoring a paper on hemispheric lateralisation and the potential efficiency benefits of corpus callosotomy surgery.

The Bajoran’s eyebrows shot up, and she nodded. So much for informality—she hadn’t called the Commander down to the planet to ask about her work, but about whether she was settling in socially. Meru should have known better. She’d worked with, and under, Vulcans before. That was part of why she’d attempted to make this meeting less formal. But it seemed she still had a ways to go.

Still, while it wasn’t the type of answer Meru had been looking for, the doctor’s research intrigued her. Yarim Fel Syndrome…Meru thought of her father, and then caught herself, burying an impolite thought in the back of her mind. As tempting as anti-Cardassian prejudices sometimes were, that was not the type of person she wanted to be.

Tahna: Those are fascinating research topics. I’m sure they’ll lead to a lot of good.

There was a quiet moment as the Doctor seemed to study her, scrutinizing.

V'Lar: How do you feel, Commander? Have you experienced an injury or are you in any way feeling unwell?

Meru frowned slightly, tilting her head.

Tahna: If I were unwell, would I not have sought you out in medbay?

V'Lar: May I ask what your purpose is here and what specifically you want with me?

That was direct, almost accusatory. Out of all the Vulcans Meru had ever known, V’Lar seemed to be by far the most hostile to the concept of “socializing.” Meru wasn’t sure if that meant this invitation had been a great or terrible idea. But she worked on the Gorkon, yes? She was the Chief Medical Officer. If she could exclusively interact with the crew in a professional capacity, that could be…problematic.

Meru offered a warm smile.

Tahna: I thought you might be interested in the plankton.

V'Lar: Response

Meru gestured toward the path that led down to the cove.

Tahna: This area is home to bioluminescent phytoplankton. It’s not a rare phenomenon, but I’ve heard they’re beautiful. And they don’t just glow in blues or greens, they’re known to shift color.

V’Lar: Response

She started down the path to the beach. It was quiet here, which she appreciated. She’d been concerned the area might be crowded, but that wasn’t the case. A gentle breeze blew in off the ocean, cooling the air and carrying the scent of salt and sea.

Tahna: V’Lar, I don’t mean to offend you. You’re an excellent doctor and researcher. But when I asked how you were settling in, I meant how are you settling in with the rest of the crew?

V’Lar: Response
