((Astrometrics, Deck 17, USS Gorkon))

Pace: Ah, yes, I’ve been looking forward to seeing the labs!

Sevo: They are amazing.

Vesela could hear the pride in the Lieutenant Commander’s voice. The Gorkon was a technological marvel, one of the Sovereign Class behemoths, and she was glad that she wasn’t stuck in this Borg-filled universe on an Elaysian Starhopper.

Taelon: I, um, admit I’ve not quite memorized the layout just yet… or gotten a lab assignment. Cyri took some of our equipment to the science decks earlier, so hopefully she’s figured that out…

oO Cyri? Another new science officer perhaps? Oo

Pace: I’m with Lieutenant Taelon, I am… quite new if you couldn’t tell sir. ::She chuckled dryly.::

Sevo: I  hadn’t noticed.

Vesela grinned at the mischievous glint in Lieutenant Commander Sevo’s eyes.

Taelon: Uhm – perhaps you could show Ensign Pace and I the way?

Pace: That would be lovely, sir! If you have the time, of course.

Sevo: Of course, where do you want to go?

Vesela drifted towards where her crutches sat. She put them back onto her forearms and glanced at them up close. Those modifications should be pretty easy to make… She would begin work as soon as possible.

As Ayiana and Taelon left the lab, she held her left crutch normally and steeled herself before putting the lab back to normal gravity levels. Somehow, it never got easier. She followed the other scientists towards the labs.

((Hallways, Deck 17, USS Gorkon))

Pace: When glancing at the Gorkon’s deck plans, I saw multiple labs on multiple decks. Are there any that focus on cell biology? Do you have a favorite lab, Commander Sevo?

Sevo: ::She puffed out her chest in pride.:: We have 40 science labs. Some are specialized, others are multipurpose. Cell biology would probably be within the Life Sciences labs on Deck 7. As for your second question, I have several. Space Sciences, Astrometrics, & Stellar Cartography, to name a few.

If this was an appropriate time to swoon, Vesela would have. 40 science labs? This ship was paradise!

Taelon: 40! I saw the science decks were large, but – that’s quite a lot!

Pace: I find it hard not to get attached to labs, even though most are easy to work in. There are just some that have a certain… charm, y’know?

Sevo: I do like Stellar Cartography. Sometimes I turn off the gravity and just float in the dome among the stars. But my favorite is Science Lab 1; it’s multipurpose, so I can set it up for different studies. I regularly schedule time on it. I used to have it available to me all the time when I was Chief Science Officer way back when. Perks of the job.

Vesela hadn’t known that Ayiana had been Chief Science Officer. She’d have to ask more about that later, when the Borg weren’t on their proverbial doorstep.

Taelon: Multipurpose labs make a lot of sense – that’s, um, good to have.

Pace: With both specialized and multipurpose labs, this ship is like a scientist’s playground!

Sevo: I have degrees in Quantum Mechanics and Subspace Mechanics, and I dabble in Temporal Mechanics, which I swear I’ll finish my thesis on someday. Those are what I focus on most often, but a lot of things pique my interest. One of my former hosts was a Materials Scientist, so I work on Chemistry a lot too.

She was a joined Trill! Vesela’d never met a Trill with a Symbiont before! There were so many questions swirling around her already overstuffed brain…

Sevo: So, Pace, you’re microbiology, or something like that, I take it? And Taelon, what’s your focus?

Vesela was glad to have a question to focus on, that helped quiet her brain.

Pace: Yes, sir! My majors at the Academy were Astronomy and Xenobiology with a focus in Humanoid Cell Biology, so I dabbled a bit in microbiology as well as anything else cell related I could get my hands on. They’re the building blocks of life! Which – er – you already know, sirs. ::She said sheepishly. Perhaps now wasn’t the best time to go on a science spree.::

Taelon: I, well – I specialize in cybernetics and robotics. Exotechnology, by Academy terms? Some computer architecture, xenolinguistics, uhm… a lot of little things, too, I guess. But, I prefer cybernetics and robotics and that’s – that’s what I’m good at. Sort of.

All of their areas of study were so different. That would be a great strength against the Borg, who prized uniformity. Suddenly, Taelon looked at Ayiana and Vesela with big, worried eyes.

Taelon: Um, please don’t say cybernetics are ‘like the Borg’. It’s not the least bit like them. Really.

Vesela felt sorry for Taelon. Unfortunately, with the… situation they were in she was sure he was going to be getting a lot of ‘cybernetics are like the Borg’ thrown at him.

Vesela: ::After a short pause.:: Don’t worry, sir. Cybernetics and robotics encompass so much more than the Borg! ::She winced a bit, that sounded much more helpful in her head.::

Sevo: Response

Taelon: R-right. Sorry. ::He looked at Vesela – or down at Vesela, given their height difference.:: Ensign, you said you studied cells…?

Pace: Ah, yes, sir! I’ve got a lot of thoughts about them! Although, that might not be the most helpful when it comes to getting us out of this universe…

Sevo: Response

Taelon: ::He smiled.:: Don’t worry, I’m sure there will be plenty of opportunities. Besides… Starfleet will make you stretch yourself… a lot.

Vesela’s eyes narrowed cheekily.

Pace: I hope they give me some warning, I’m much more flexible without my exoskeleton!

Sevo: Response

Taelon made an amused little noise. She thanked the Three Goddesses that her humor had finally hit the mark.

Taelon: Because, when things go badly, well – you’re wearing blue, and you’ll be at that console regardless of your degree. A-and if you graduated, then – you’ve got the ability to make that work. Even I did it, so you’re – you’ll be fine.

Pace: ::She smiled up at him.:: Thank you, sir. ::She paused, then looked at the two scientists in the hallway with her.:: I think I lucked out in the coworker department, you guys are the best in any universe!

Sevo: Response

Pace: I suppose we should choose a lab, or at least a deck to head to next. Any preferences or recommendations?

Sevo / Taelon: Response

Vesela nodded her head.

Pace: Sounds good to me! I’d like to see all 40 eventually, but that is definitely more than a day’s work.

Sevo / Taelon: Response

Pace: Oh! And what about… ::She paused, trying to remember the name mentioned earlier.:: Cyri? If she has your equipment, perhaps we should find her?

Sevo / Taelon: Response
