((Lar's Parlour, The Slims, Nassau))
Nera: Prophets, that’ll put hairs on…well, everything
Standing up, Ay began to weave his way through the crows towards the exit, and the cramped streets of The Slims.
Ay was used to places like this, packed to the brim with loud rough and ready types, he’d spent far too much of his time around those sorts in his academy days. Moving through a crowd like this was easy enough when you were used to it, like an old muscle memory.
Standish: Hey. Wait up.
Whatever words Standish said were drowned out by a particularly large patron's belly laugh. Before long he’d reached the door, turned around, and found that Standish wasn’t a step behind him as he’d thought.
Peering through the crowd he could just about see his colleague making slow progress, getting jostled from side to side. He should really go and help…but then, it wouldn’t be a learning experience. He opted instead to lean against the wall and wait, a wide grin plastered across his face.
When Standish eventually caught up, Ay pushed the door open and led them out into the street.
((Streets, The Slims, Nassau))
The light, what little there was at least, made for an immediate change to the dingy interior of Lar’s Parlour. At least they could look up, and try to see the caverns ceiling, somewhere high above them, past where the tallest buildings stopped.
That aside, the crowding was still just as bad, really they’d only traded a cramped interior for extremely narrow streets. Glancing across at Standish, he noticed that the man was somewhat fixated on a dark stain on his unfrom.
Nera: Bit of a hazard in places like that, unfortunately. Honestly, you’re lucky it's only a bit of drink.
It could have easily been blood or vomit, either was likely given the clientele.
Standish: I have to say, that was an interesting place. I guess it's not impossible that I would find myself back there again. But maybe I'd bring my own drink. And maybe earplugs and nose plugs.
Ay chuckled to himself, not entirely surprised by that statement.
Standish gestured down a nearby alley, where throngs of people were slowly funnelling themselves to whatever depth of the Nassau they were aiming for.
Standish: Shall we go? I'll let you lead the way.
Nera: Alright then, let’s see what we can find
They set off further into the streets, weaving through the packed masses at a leisurely pace. There wasn’t a great rush at this stage, they had more than enough time. Ay wasn’t due back on duty for quite a few hours, more than enough time to amble around Nassau and work the alcohol off. On more than one occasion The Slims presented its seedier side, as they made their way past sights and sounds which were best left ignored.
The narrow streets at last gave way into a more open area, allowing them both a little more comfort. Not having to brush your shoulder along the wall constantly, and flatten yourself against a building to navigate a street really was a blessing.
Standish: Does everyone just walk everywhere here? I don't think I've seen any vehicles. I guess it's not really big enough to need them.
Nera: In The Slims at least. The streets are too small for anything as big as a vehicle, not even big enough for the people who live here sometimes. There are transports in other parts of the asteroid, the more open areas I mean. And to get from district to district.
Standish: Response
Nera: Let’s see…Sunder Peak is at the very top of the asteroid, we can catch a transport over there. As for the medical facilities, they’re in Neon Heights, what was once the leisure district. I think the medics took over a restaurant called Ugami’s. Kept the name, of course.
Ay supposed it was such a small thing to change, that no one had ever bothered; and for anyone who’d lived on the asteroid initially, it was just easier to keep the same names. Even if it did lead to odd sentences like “got a broken leg? go to Ugami’s”
Standish: Response
Nera: I have been meaning to take a look at their facilities at some stage. Professional curiosity, like you said. Be interesting to see what they’ve pulled together to treat any injuries that crop up.
Standish: Response
Spying a sign marked “transport”, Ay made a beeline towards it and began following the winding streets in the direction it had indicated.
Nera: Come on, we can hop onto one of the transports and head over to Neon Heights and Ugami’s
The transports were an experience in their own right; rattling metal boxes packed with people, much like the old earth trains.
Standish: Response
