((Apartment Block, Floor 6 - Upper vIq'mItlh City, veHrom’nagh))
V'Lar: The readings are fluctuating, they may be injured or there may be something in their immediate vicinity that is interfering with tricorder readings.
A muffled scream from within the apartment cut the Lieutenant off. The sound was indicative of acute distress, potentially explaining the fluctuating life sign readings that she had been tracking.
Taelon: I—
V'Lar observed the El-Aurian officer's attempt to force the door. His application of force was direct but inefficient against the warped metal despite his considerable physical size.
T. Sevo: Unless you have Klingon-level strength, I doubt it’ll budge.
The security officer's assessment that considerable strength, beyond that of a typical humanoid, would likely be required in any effort to force the door using brute force was likely accurate.
V’Lar: A more targeted intervention might yield better results however, if physical strength is required, I may be able to force the door.
Taelon: Damn— V’Lar, can you —
The Lieutenant was about to request her assistance, logically assuming her Vulcan strength would be a deciding factor. Before she could respond, however, the Admiral took a more direct and efficient approach.
Reynolds: Taelon, stop it and get out of the way. You’d be the first in the firing line if you got it open. Set up ARIA to watch the corridors once we’re inside. V’Lar, I want more detail about who’s in the apartment, at least an idea of how many we’re dealing with. Sevo, I want you on point to head in once we have the door open.
T. Sevo: Aye, sir.
V'Lar immediately complied with the Admiral's command. She refocused her tricorder on the apartment, attempting to isolate the fluctuating life sign from the sensor interference. The sudden silence from within was an ominous new variable.
V'Lar: Admiral, I am only detecting a single, fading Klingon life sign.
The interference appears to be emanating from a low-level energy source near the life sign, but I am detecting no other distinct biosignatures at this time.
Taelon: Response
A loud, metallic shriek from the door mechanism signaled the Admiral's success. A gust of wind and rain immediately swept into the corridor from the dark apartment beyond, carrying with it the scent of ozone and wet metal. As the security officer prepared to enter, V'Lar remained at the threshold. Her function was not tactical entry and, whilst she understood there were times when a medical officer needed to put their safety at risk for the greater good, it would be illogical for her to rush into the room prior to being able to ascertain the risks. She instead directed her tricorder's sensors through the opening, attempting to resolve the fluctuating life sign readings in case she needed to provide an updated response.
T. Sevo: Immediate area clear.
V'Lar followed the security officer into the apartment, her medkit held ready. The environmental conditions were sub-optimal: low light, airborne contaminants, and significant water ingress from the broken window.
Taelon: Response
T. Sevo: There must be someone in here, from what we heard a moment ago.
The security officer's statement was logical. The away team began to spread out, searching the small, chaotic space. V'Lar's tricorder was already guiding her toward the highest concentration of biological readings.
Reynolds / Taelon: Response
T. Sevo: Got a body over here!
The security officer had located the source of the life sign. V'Lar moved to his position with practiced efficiency, her mind already preparing for field triage. She knelt beside the prone Klingon, her eyes taking in the multiple traumatic injuries.
Reynolds / V’Lar / Taelon: Response
???: Starfleet? ::He grinned, trying to chuckle.:: gho Doqqu'... ::cough:: Torghen… Pak’argh… ::The man pointed to the door on the right side of the living room.:: cha'-vagh-wej-Soch.
The patient was conscious, but barely. His respiration was labored, indicative of a punctured lung, and his speech was fragmented but the data he provided in the form of names and numbers could prove to be important.
V'Lar's tricorder indicated multiple critical injuries, she quickly got to work.
T. Sevo: I take it this is Ep’ehko?
Reynolds / Taelon: Response
The question of the patient's identity was secondary to his medical condition.
V'Lar: He has serious, life-threatening injuries. I will attempt to stabilise him. ::To the Klingon:: Please remain calm.
Reynolds / Taelon / T. Sevo: Responses
Her tricorder started to emit a shrill series of alerts.
V'Lar: He is going into hypovolemic shock. Lieutenant Taelon, please assist me.
Taelon: Response
With no spinal injury present it should be a simple matter to keep their airway open without the need for a respirator. With three lungs, she could prioritise elsewhere.
V'Lar: Please do exactly as I instruct. Place one hand on their forehead and use it to tilt his head backwards then place two fingers on their chin, lifting it forward. Keep your hands in place until I instruct otherwise.
As she spoke she recovered the battlefield trauma kit from her medkit, with airway and breathing no longer urgent she could move on to circulation.
Taelon: Response
Reynolds / T. Sevo: Responses
She quickly administered a broad-spectrum coagulant from the trauma kit to stimulate the clotting of blood and stem blood loss in order to reduce the risk of death from hemorrhage. She took a moment to study her tricorder, confirming that the Klingon's vital signs, whilst still weak, were no longer in decline.
V'Lar: Admiral, whilst I can temporarily stabilise the Klingon they do require urgent intensive care beyond what I can provide with a medkit. I would suggest we transport them to the Gorkon.
Reynolds / Taelon / T. Sevo: Responses
