(( Cattle Trail, Texas, July 1867 ))
Stoyer: Y’all want to do another couple of hours and then call it for the day?
Sevo: I can go for a few more. What’s next? Nap under the starlight?
Tahna: Clean the dishes?
Finch: Booooring!
Sevo: Might be a good idea to let the food settle a bit before we do anything else. Campfire songs?
Stoyer: Ayiana…
Sevo: Sadly, I don’t know any. I bet you two do, though. ::She pointed to Cory and Finch. ::
Stoyer: To be honest, I don’t. I'm a historian, but my study didn’t cover this.
Finch: Ooooh a historian, are you! Isn’t that wonderful?
Stoyer: So, what do y’all think of the program? A friend of mine writes them for me. I have a whole bunch of them. Well, mostly historical battles.
Tahna: I’ve enjoyed seeing how you humans used to live.
Finch: Interesting isn’t it, love? Though I do prefer a bit more action, myself.
Sevo: I’ve tried one of his naval battles with him. It's terrifyingly realistic.
Stoyer: Sorry about the beginning of the program. I really get into these.
Finch: Nonsense, I was getting into it myself until we all broke character. Though I suppose we’re not all natural thespians. ::She gave Cory a quick wink.:: Still, nothing a bit of training can’t sort out!
Sevo: What are you implying?!
Tahna: Maybe next time, we should do a historical program from another planet, or from Doz’s part of Earth. What would you pick, Doz?
Finch: Born in the Falklands, lived in Birmingham. There’s a lot of potential there. Victorian era could be a goodin’.
Sevo: Victorian… Is that the era where women wore those long, complex dresses with the corsets that bunches you up so tight you can hardly breathe? Done that. Not a fan.
Stoyer: Response
Tahna: And what would you choose for Trill history, Sevo?
Ayiana had to think about that. She wasn’t sure. History was not her strong suit.
Sevo: I’m not sure. I’m not much for history, except for myth and legends. Maybe something from them.
Stoyer: Response
Finch: I’ll bet there’s some cracking museums on the Trill homeworld.
Ayiana almost smiled at the thought of her many trips to them in her childhood. They were really fun and what got her into science.
Sevo: Oh yea. My mother works at the Najana Metropolitan Museum. She took me and my sister there many times when we were growing up. I loved it.
Stoyer/Tahna: Response
Finch: I’ve always admired the Trill. Carrying around all that experience and hindsight. All those good memories, and the bad ones too. There’s a lot to be said about a person who can bear that sort of weight. You’ve surely got to be made of stern stuff.
Sevo: That’s the whole reason we go through the selection system. The rigorous training and evaluation is to test a candidate’s physical and mental being. You have to have a strong personality for a proper, balanced Blending or else it can be subsumed by the Symbiont’s. Years of training teach us how to withstand the weight of several lifetimes of memory and experience. There’s a reason over 70% of applicants wash out.
Stoyer/Tahna: Response
Finch: I worked with a gorgeous soul once, a couple of assignments before this one. She said she was from…now what did she call it? Something city…Najana City, I think it was?
Sevo: That’s my hometown. Interesting. Do you remember her name, or occupation?
Stoyer/Tahna: Response
Sevo: It’s always good to meet a fellow member of your own species, even in Starfleet. There’s a lot of species in service, sometimes only one or two of one on an entire ship. And though it’s very egalitarian and equal, Humans still make up a majority percentage. No offense, guys.
Stoyer/Finch/Tahna: Response
Sevo: We’ve had quite a number of Trill come through the ship over the years; almost all Joined.
Stoyer/Finch/Tahna: Response
Sevo: Right now, we’ve got a good population of Andorians on the ship.
