:: Chythar was dressed casually in a pair of jeans and a tank top, wrestling over a squeaky cheeseburger chew toy with Devlin. The puppy growled and clawed at his owner playfully, leaving a fresh pair of white scratch marks on the doctor’s arm. Most of the doc's stuff was still in boxes, as he hadn't really unpacked it. Then, the door chime rang. Chythar remained on the ground playing with the puppy and called out to the door. ::

Skyfire: Enter!

:: Carter came into the room, wearing the usual black and gold of his casual attire. His hair was a mess, and he had a cup of coffee in his hand. He was up for the last two days doing nothing but study. He missed Ris, and had already left three messages with zero reaction from her. ::

Greyson: Hey, doc. Got a minute?

:: Devlin’s eyes went from the cheeseburger toy to Carter, and he dropped it with his tongue lolling from his maw as he gave a yip of greeting. The doc got up off the floor and headed over to the replicator for a cocoa, then beckoned his former room mate to a seat on the couch. ::

Skyfire: What’s on your mind, Carter?

:: Carter was bad at putting things into words, and hated essays. Fortunately, this was a friend and not a professor like Dr. Rahman, so words weren’t as hard. They were still hard, just not nearly that hard. He had a  sip of his coffee before speaking. ::

Greyson: I need you to explain this :: Vulcan curse word :: to me.

:: CD had never heard Carter swear before. Though he didn’t understand Vulcan, he knew enough to know that wasn’t a compliment. He’d often heard a few Vulcans use it during grad school when they were cursing about an injury. ::

Skyfire: Which particular :: Klingon swear word :: do you need me to explain, exactly?

:: Carter had another sip of his drink, swallowed then exhaled slowly. ::

Greyson: I can’t get through to Ris for some reason. Like she hit the ignore button on me or something. I mean, I know I’ve been busy with homework, but...you guys were on an away mission. So I feel I’m excused for not knowing what’s going on. But because I don’t know what’s going on, I can’t get through to her. Does that make sense?

:: Skyfire sipped his cocoa and listened to the words. He knew what was going on, and it wasn’t his place to reveal what happened. He was bound by doctor-patient confidentiality, and couldn’t say anything, ethically. ::

Skyfire: It does. Unfortunately, I can’t help you..

Greyson: What do you mean, you can’t help me?

:: The doc had another sip of his drink. ::

Skyfire: You want me to talk to you about Ris and speculate why she’s dodging you. Right?

Greyson: Right.

:: CD wasn't used to having these sort of conversations. He wasn't used to giving a milder statement than what had actually happened. He was still getting over the adrenaline rush from being in temporary command of the ship for a few hours. However short it was, it was indeed a rush. And he knew that the emotions that were bantered around on the bridge while under his command were enough to drive himself mad, if he weren't on his inhibitor. ::

Skyfire: Best I can offer you is she’s had a long few days. She needs to rest. Probably disabled communications to her room so she could do so.

:: Carter’s brows furrowed. This wasn’t the sort of answer he was hoping for. He just wanted to see how she was doing, was all. And this wasn’t helping. ::

Greyson: I see. :: He sipped his coffee again and got up, heading for the door. ::

:: The doc rose also, though this time caught his friend’s attention. ::

Skyfire: Carter. Give her a few days to rest, then go talk to her. Alright?

Greyson: Alright. Later, CD. :: With those words, he walked out the door. ::
