[G-OQTRs] JP-Lt. Skyfire & Lt.Moonsong: Support Structure Part 2
((Officer’s Quarters: Skyfire))
Skyfire: I don’t know if I’ll make much sense, but worth a try. Perhaps.
Moonsong: ::Her fingers rhythmically stroked Devlin’s head.:: I’m listening...
:: He had a sip of his tea, and swallowed it before responding. ::
Skyfire: We were captured, and brought to the throne room. After I explained we weren’t there to harm anyone and a little argument with the queen, we were shown to the reliquary. They had some “relics” of Starfleet issue tech, including Core’s tool kit, Saveron’s tricorder, and a phaser. All looking like they’d been there for about ten thousand years. :: He paused. And took a breath. :: And three skeletons. Shandres, Core, and Saveron.
:: Devlin climbed off of Ris’s lap and went over to his master, jumping up onto CD’s lap and licking his hand. oO Feel better, Master! Oo ::
Skyfire: Crazy, right?
::She frowned slightly at his words.::
Moonsong: Not at all. We were dealing with temporal physics. That is such a maze of traps, almost anything is possible.
:: He had another sip of his tea and exhaled slowly, blowing some of the stray blond hair from his eyes. ::
Skyfire: Shandres died of what I thought was natural causes ten thousand years ago. As did Tristam and Saveron. And Shandres was being treated by Saveron, and I was having a conversation with Tristam. I can’t sense them, so I couldn’t use that as a means of justifying they were alive… Am I crazy?
::Raissa shook her head. There was a flicker of greenish gold light behind her eyes as the Community bandied about theories that could account for the men being alive and dead at the same time.::
Moonsong: No, CD. You are not crazy. You are perfectly sane. I don’t doubt for a moment that you saw them both dead and alive.
Skyfire: :: He sighed and let Devlin continue giving him licks. :: So when do we get to put the planet back where it belongs?
Moonsong: That may not be possible. The energy required is too great and the temporal fabric in that area of space is far too fragile to attempt it.
:: It was just too much for him to process at the moment. And right now, he was still convinced that he had a conversation with ghosts. Or rather, a ghost. A heavy sigh escaped from the doc, one of resignation. ::
Skyfire: Department of Temporal Investigation is going to have fun with us…
Moonsong: I don’t care about that. I care about you. CD, you are not crazy. The readings are still in your tricorder, right?
:: There was a saying that hearing the words “You’ll be alright.” often helped comatose patients or those who were unconscious often made it so. In this case, hearing his counselor--no...sister, telling him he wasn’t losing his marbles must have helped. Somewhat. ::
Skyfire: I’m not crazy. Thank you. :: and seemed somewhat relieved. ::
Moonsong: You’ve given them physicals since you all came back, haven’t you?
:: As the question was asked, he didn’t think he had. After a moment he nodded silently. Devlin braced his paws on the doc’s chest and licked CD’s face. ::
Skyfire: Only Commander Core. I haven’t given physicals to the other two.
Moonsong: Then you need to do that. When are you letting Shandres out of Sickbay? I heard he was poisoned.
:: He gave a shrug. knowing he had to give the other two physicals somehow in the back of his mind. He’d check the records later to see if their physicals were actually in the system, but before DTI showed up. ::
Skyfire: Saveron was treating Shandres last time I saw him, so...I’m not sure.
Moonsong: ::her voice was quiet.:: Saveron isn’t the CMO. You are.
:: He wrapped his arms around Devlin and gave him a hug as he gave a nod in response to her statement. ::
Skyfire: I know I am… :: and sighed again. :: Making it my job to make sure they’re actually alive and fit for duty. Right?
Moonsong: Right. ::she smiled faintly::
Skyfire: So I should do that in the near-ish future, I suppose.
::Raissa nodded, but her eyes were on the puppy. She felt the conversation was winding down. She was able to help him make some important steps in dealing with his issues. Despite everything that was going on, or not going on, she could still do her job.::
Moonsong: I think your next duty shift is soon enough. I’m sure Devlin missed you.
Skyfire: I know he did. :: and he let the puppy lick his face again. :: Anything I can do for you in the meantime?
Moonsong: ::too quickly:: No, I’m fine. I should go.
Devlin: oO Master okay now? Oo
:: He gazed up at her with his equally calm gaze. Something was bothering her, he could tell. And the fact she seemed reluctant to discuss it seemed to reveal that she really was bothered. ::
Skyfire: I know you better than that, Ris. Tell me what’s got you bothered.
:: The doctor hesitated for a few moments before he opened his mouth. He wasn’t used to being the reassuring party, and swallowed hard before he spoke. ::
::She looked away from him, her mouth tight.::
Moonsong: We’ve already discussed Carter.
Skyfire: True, though I get the feeling it’s more than just tension with the lad that has you bothered. Intuition, I guess.
:: Skyfire sipped his tea, letting himself relax and petting his quadrupedal friend with an idle hand. The dog did bring a level of comfort. Devlin went back to licking CD’s face, trying to help in his own adorable way. ::
::Raissa came to the realization that she wasn’t comfortable talking about herself. It was a difficult realization. She spent all her time helping others and focusing on their problems. But she was just as prone to wish someone would give her the same kind of attention. But in the rare instances that it occurred she found herself mute.::
Moonsong: I’m fine, CD. ::She was beginning to hate that word. ‘Fine’. She rose to her feet.:: I should go. ::She paused.:: I think this can count as a session so I can sign off on your eval.
:: Devlin jumped of his master’s lap and tried to pounce onto hers before she finished standing. Chythar raised an eyebrow as the pooch slid to the couch. ::
Skyfire: Seems to me that Devlin doesn’t think so. If you don’t want to discuss it further, I get it. If my listening would help, at any point, I’m here.
::Raissa stroked Devlin’s ears. It was the rare occurrence when she was at a loss for words. She was not used to discussing her own feelings. She found the contradiction as it related to her job, painful.::
Moonsong: It’s not that simple, CD. I appreciate the thought.
Skyfire: It’d be simpler if you’d let someone in who you trusted, sis. I mean, I know we aren’t exactly close, but after all we’ve been through...I’m a good listener, and you know it.
::She didn’t sit back down. She hesitated. She knew what her fear was.::
Moonsong: That’s the problem. I’m not really close to anyone. Everyone is a patient in some way. And you shouldn’t get close, otherwise you shouldn’t treat them. ::the floodgates opened.:: I don’t feel I belong here. On this ship. I feel like I don’t know what I’m doing most of the time. On the bridge I’m out of place and useless most of the time.
::She started pacing.::
Moonsong: My issues with Carter is just a symptom.
Skyfire: I know, I know. Docs shouldn’t get close to patients either. Otherwise they aren’t any good at it. Feelings could get clouded. :: He paused for a moment and had another sip of his tea as Devlin followed her around. :: Thought about taking an LOA? Going to spend time with your parents?
:: She shook her head.::
Moonsong: I haven’t been here a year. I haven’t really been through anything. I’ve only watched things happen around me.
Skyfire: You’ve been through more than you know. You’ve listened to a lot of people, and from what I have observed have taken no time to face the issues that you find about yourself. if you need the time, take it. I’m sure the Community would agree that you should make sure you are okay, mentally.
::Raissa was silent as she stood there. She tried to deny his points but she was too aware of herself to ignore the truth. He was right. She was starting to feel constantly exhausted. Other than the occasional outing with Alora, she worked. Her shore leaves consisted of an increase in counseling sessions.::
Moonsong: Easier said than done. I know you’re right, but….
:: He fixed his gaze with hers, the puppy padding playfully over to the couch in a ‘follow me’ type motion. Beyond that, CD’s voice was calm and filled with a bit of an Irish brogue. ::
Skyfire: I ken it is easier said than done. There are no ‘buts’ here, Ris. Jest do it -- take the time ye need t’ get yer head in order.
Devlin: oO Ris not feeling better...Oo
::Raissa watched Devlin padding back and forth, but she didn’t sit back down. Her problem was a common one. She was a very good counselor but lousy at helping herself. And with the current workload she wasn’t sure she could pull it off without feeling guilty.::
Moonsong: I’ll try….
Skyfire: Commander Valen should be released shortly and able to get back to work. I’m sure once yeh explained to her, she’d give ye the time.
::She frowned.::
Moonsong: Commander Valen has been through a lot more than I have, CD. Kidnapped, held hostage, dumped on a planet, back in time, drugged for weeks. She needs to work through that.
Devlin: Raff.
Skyfire: Only a week, from what I saw. Though you could be right. Invite her out for drinks and maybe take the time to work through some of your own at the same time?
::Raissa was uncomfortable. She didn’t really know her department chief well enough to be social.::
Moonsong: I’ll… think about it….
Skyfire: :: taking a breath. :: Alright, alright. I won’t press it any further.
:: Devlin padded back over to Ris and placed his forepaws on her leg, giving a soft yip of affirmation. ::
Devlin: Raff? oO Feel better! Oo
::Raissa looked down at the puppy and her expression softened with affection. She leaned over and rubbed his ears.::
Moonsong: Thanks, sweetie.
::She raised her eyes and looked at her friend.::
Moonsong: And thanks, CD.
:: He gave a nod. There wasn’t much he could say that wouldn’t inflame the situation, so decided to stick with neutrality. ::
Skyfire: Sure. Any time.
Moonsong: ::quietly:: I’ll see you later then.
Skyfire: Yep. See you.
:: As she took her leave, Devlin crawled up to the couch and into his master’s lap, placing his forepaws on her chest and licking his face repeatedly. ::
