Genkos leaned backwards in his chair, crossing his legs at the ankle as he did so. He took a sip of his tea and stared at Mary over the rim of his mug.
Adea: I know it is a unique circumstance, but Addison recognises the personal factor involved. Starfleet will listen to our recommendations, so I guess… what, in an ideal universe, do you want?
Daniel: I want to go somewhere quiet and out-of-the-way. Where I can raise the baby in peace. A real planet, with real air and real dirt underfoot. With a sun that rises in the morning and sets in the evening. Somewhere that isn’t in daily jeopardy of being blown into pieces.
Genkos nodded; sometimes he wanted the same thing.
Adea: Not an unreasonable request.
Daniel: Actually, I take that back. ::beat:: I want the baby to have all those things. I’m not saying that what I want doesn’t matter, but in the grand scheme of things, I’ll be happy if I know the baby is happy.
Adea: That’s a very selfless act, Mary. I am proud of you.
And he was. She had grown so much in the last few months, so far beyond her programming that she was able to feel so many differing emotions. Mary ate her second biscuit and finished her tea.
Daniel: I feel much better about this meeting with Commander MacKenzie after having spoken with you, Doctor. I know your primary concern is my medical needs, but I’ve been the recipient of so much of your wisdom and compassion over these months, too. Thank you for that.
Adea: It is my pleasure.
