((The Round Table - USS Excalibur-A))
Ashli adored being a diplomatic officer, but even she couldn't deny that the environment wasn't exactly for the faint-hearted. Or
nice people in general. Being somewhat toxic was the personality trait of far too many of her colleagues, and she was surprised when Colt noted that he had been in a similar environment.
Sydin: Why, been a diplomatic officer yourself? You don't exactly look the part.
Colt laughed audibly at this.
Daniels: Other side of the same coin. ::He mimed flipping a coin for dramatic effect.:: Just came off a decade at Starfleet Intel HQ. Lots of backstabbing and ass-covering. Lots of people would do anything to claw their way to the next rung
on the ladder.
Sydin: Oh that sounds very familiar. Which is understandable, really, else how would you get ahead?
Ash had done several things she wasn't exactly proud of, but it had gotten her where she was now. Excalibur was a huge ship with an important assignment, and she knew many other diplomatic officers who would envy her.
Daniels: Don't tell me my new friend Ashli is one of them?
Sydin: A little. Sometimes. ::she smirked:: So you've left intel - what are you doing
now? Aside climbing ladders and catching diplomatic officers?
He tugged at the red collar of his duty uniform demonstrably.
Daniels: I'm a Mission Specialist. ::He shrugged.:: Which is a fancy name for someone who can kind of fill in for most positions in pretty much any situation. At least, that's what it's been for me so far.
Sydin: Every position? Like, every every position?
Daniels: Riight. Every position except diplomat. ::He grinned mischievously.:: You ever get tired of bein' a viper, I think you'd look good in Mission Specialist red.
Sydin: Ugh. ::she rolled her eyes and emptied her drink, setting it down on the counter:: Though I do like that shirt on you. Then again, it would even better laying on my carpet.
Daniels: response
Sydin: Oh lighten up, Mister Mission Specialist. ::to the bartender:: He needs another drink, clearly.
Not like she was that terribly interested, but his reaction had made the statement worth the risk.
Daniels: response
Sydin: Well, I haven't exactly planned on a career change for the time being. But who knows. Starfleet works in mysterious ways.
Daniels: response
Sydin: Let's drink to that.
She raised her glass and waited for him to do the same. He seemed nice - even if perhaps a little too nice - but considering the pace at which Ashli tended to make enemies, having made a friend was something she was happy with.
