((Shuttle Ector, Shuttlebay 2, USS Excalibur-A))

After a brief, perhaps awkward silence Jovenan turned once again to Crewman Lante.

Jovenan: So… In case we need to, uh, launch to evacuate, we might need to fly this thing. Do you know how to use shuttle weapons or shields? Do they train you these things? I could show you some buttons.

Lante: I am a Security officer Ma’am, not a Tactical crewman. Put me in sight of the Klingons and I can fire at them and fight hand in hand. ::He shrugged:: I had about an hour training in tactical systems so I could use a refresh if you don’t mind.

Being an officer, without never having served in enlisted capacity, Jovenan had little information on what training did they receive, but she had suspected the security training may not fully cover tactical systems. The narrower focus in one field allowed the enlisted to master their jobs: unlike Crewman Lante, Jovenan might not stand a chance in fighting against a Klingon, armed or not herself. However, with their long education with wide coverage allowed the officers to serve in multiple roles. Jovenan had had courses in shuttlecraft piloting and engineering course in weapons and shields, meaning she had more experience in using them than the Crewman, despite her field of specialisation having more distant relation to the subject matter than the Crewman’s one.

She switched seats with the Crewman, taking the pilot’s seat. Even if the shuttle was not moving, this gave her a bit of anxiety.

Jovenan: Okay… Uh, well, the shuttle weapons are somewhat similar to the handheld ones. They’re both phasers after all. There’s a reason why many security officers also serve in tactical on bridge.

Lante: Although they have a lot in common there is a difference. We do try and have a notion, but not much.

Jovenan: Umm… Well, the ships’ weapons are controlled here and the shields… ::describes controls::

She did her best to describe the Crewman all the controls and how to use them properly. Of course, their time was limited. While they had covered these subjects for weeks in the Academy, they had mere moments, not to mention those courses were held by proper professors and trainers, not by some random Ensigns who had barely passed the piloting course. Luckily, Crewman Lante had received some training on the matter, so she didn’t have to repeat much of what she had managed to teach.

Lante: Thank you, I think I can manage. See Ma’am you're a fine officer and I wouldn’t like to be stranded on a shuttle with anyone else.

Lante blushed unexpectedly, which confused Jovenan mildly.

Lante: I don't mean to be disrespectful Ma’am, just want to assure you your doing a good job

Jovenan: ::smiling:: Thank you, Lante! I was lucky to get you join me here instead of going alone!

Lante: Response?

Jovenan: Now, let’s hope you’ll never need to use these controls and we can leave without a hassle.

Lante: Response?

A short pause followed, which allowed them to better hear what was going on. There had been weapons’ fire earlier, but it was now silent. Had the fight ended, or were they boarded? They were not in immediate danger in the shuttle, surrounded by thinly aired shuttlebay, but not knowing the situation made her nervous.

Kawarda: =/\= Kawarda to Ensign Jovenan =/\=

Oh good, Kawarda! Jovenan had not contacted him since the Captain had issued the warning, but now he was calling him, indicating that the battle was, at least for his part of the ship, not endangering them.

Jovenan: =/\= Jovenan here! =/\=

She wasn’t entirely sure if their commlink went through the ship internal comms or if they were still functioning with the badge-to-badge modifications she had made. She might need to take their badges to be fixed when this was all over.

Kawarda: =/\= Systems throughout the ship appear to be returning to sufficient operational parameters. I presume you were successful in relaying the data to the Commodore? =/\=

Jovenan: =/\= That’s good to hear! A bit surprising, but still. I did transmit the location data you found, and the bridge acknowledged receiving it. We, me and Crewman Lante, also decoded one transmission, the other was decrypted. The one we managed to hear was a distress call from the missing officers, they are held prisoners by renegade Klingons on Daisy! I sent that, and the new info you sent me over commlink, to the bridge, but I’m not sure if they received it. So, uh, then the shuttlebay partially decompressed and we’re stuck in a shuttle, the Ector. =/\=

She listed all the recent events quickly, wishing to inform her new friend and colleague of everything that may be relevant.

Kawarda: =/\= I see. Do you require assistance, or would you prefer I remain in Astrometrics? =/\=

Jovenan: =/\= Uh, the bridge did instruct us to wait here in case we need to evacuate. There was supposed to be a fight, do you know what’s the situation with that? Are things safe where you are? =/\=

Kawarda: =/\= Response =/\=

Jovenan: =/\= Oh, okay. Maybe we don’t need to sit here much longer. Maybe you could go to the Flight Control and see what’s the situation there… they might not even know we’re stuck here. It would be nice to have an atmosphere in here and leave by the door and not having to use some unusual methods to leave this shuttle. =/\=

Kawarda: =/\= Response =/\=

Jovenan: =/\= Thanks, Kawarda. Hope we see soon! Jovenan out. =/\=

The commlink ended and she turned to Lante.

Jovenan: Ensign Kawarda is going to see if he can get us out. He seemed to have some method of getting rid of the nanobot-thingies, so maybe we can leave soon.

Lante: Response

Jovenan: The bridge can still give us something to do if they need to, but otherwise I think things are turning back to normal for us.

Lante: Response
