((Counsellor’s Office, Excalibur-A))
MacKenzie certainly did not qualify as an easy patient, but Jinean had dealt with worse. And while the Counsellor's self confidence still hadn't recovered from past events, she genuinely cared about her colleagues, and their mental health.
Seta: Like I said, I don't subscribe to forcing someone to open up about their feelings. If I were concerned about you repressing memories or emotions, I would be a lot more pushy. But not everyone breaks the same way. Not everyone heals the
same way. ::pause:: But I find it important that we recognise that something did happen, and that it is impacting you, no matter how often you've encountered something similar before.
Her lips broke into a nearly mischievous grin.
MacKenzie: Oh, something happened alright.
Seta: So if you don't mind me asking, how do you usually cope? What are strategies that you developed, and how can I best support you moving forward.
Addison’s hands raised from her lap slightly, her palms facing toward the ceiling.
MacKenzie: I cope by getting back to work. We’ve got 835 people on board, and I’m more or less responsible for managing all of them. There’s a job to do, and while I know there are other people who can do the job, the best thing I can do both
for the ship and for myself is to keep working.
Which wasn't an uncommon stress response, and something Jinean couldn't blame anyone for.
Seta: So how I can help?
MacKenzie: Well, if you want to know how you can help, keep an eye on my performance. If things start to take a turn, I expect another summons. Deal?
Seta: Fair enough.
Not what Jinean had aimed for, but it was a basis of working together.
MacKenzie smiled, nodded, and stood, smoothing the front of her uniform as she did so.
MacKenzie: In that case, Counselor, I think should know that this is possibly both the most pleasant and likely most productive session I’ve ever had. So pleasant, in fact, that I might just come back.
oO Unlikely. Oo
No one ever voluntarily sought out a counsellor, and Jinean doubted that MacKenzie was an exception.
Seta: I am looking forward to it.
MacKenzie: Thank you, Counselor. Sincerely.
Excalibur's FO left, and once the doors hissed shut, Jinean allowed herself a sigh. She checked the chrono. 1809 hours.
