((OOC: It seems like Kali has received data from Jovenan using a shuttlecraft despite her not making into one yet and the received data not being the one she had with her. I had to use some really creative writing to clear up contradictions.))

((Shuttlebay 2, USS Excalibur-A))

((Before Captain receiving the location data))

Jovenan: Uhh… Do you happen to know how to operate one of these?

It had been very embarrassing for Jovenan to have to ask that. She was the one the duo of herself and Crewman Lante that had gone to the Academy and who had received a full officer education and training. She wasn’t exactly sure what security enlisted training consisted of, but shuttlecraft operations were probably not a part of it. To her surprise, the Crewman looked equally embarrassed.

Lante: I am a Security weapons specialist Ma’am, not exactly a pilot. ::he tapped on the outer display to open the shuttle doors and gestured for the Ensign to enter.:: I can power it up , but I am not qualified to pilot it.

The Crewman opened the shuttle doors, and Jovenan entered. It had been so easy for the enlisted man that she began to wonder if she could have done that if she wasn’t so incapable to do absolutely anything under pressure. That didn't take away the fact that the Crewman had managed to do so without succumbing to stress. He doing just the right thing, even if he didn't fully realise that.

Jovenan: Uh, I didn’t have piloting in mind, actually. We’re not going for a flight… hopefully. Powering up and similar operations are enough.

Lante: I am sorry Ma’am, I misunderstood your question. I can power up the shuttle but my knowledge is barely minimal.

Jovenan: Good, that’s just the kind of help I need!

The Crewman took the pilot’s seat and began the power up procedures. As the shuttle’s engines began to make noise, some of its lights and interfaces flickered for a few seconds before turning on. She rushed to the console next to the pilot's seat. Making the necessary check-ups first, she was relieved to find out that the shuttle's system seemed to be unaffected by any effects of the virus for now.

Lante: It’s all yours Ma’am

Jovenan: Thank you, mister Lante! I might need some more help in a moment.

As she started uploading the transmission data from the PADD to the shuttle's system, she tapped her combadge to inform her science partner in the astrometrics lab of the situation.

Jovenan: =/\= Jovenan to Kawarda =/\=

Kawarda: =/\= Response =/\=

Jovenan: =/\= I have made it to a shuttlecraft. I've started the upload of the transmission data. I’ll contact you in a moment. =/\=

Kawarda: =/\= Response =/\=

She continued working with the communications console, when she noticed the Crewman in the corner of her eye. Feeling she might need to clarify something that might be of high importance to the Crewman and the rest of the shuttlebay crew, she answered a question before it was asked.

Jovenan: I only have communications to one person, another science officer in astrometrics, not to the bridge or any other high-up in command chain. I modified our combadges to bypass the internal comms so we could keep in touch.

Lante: Response

Jovenan: ::jokingly:: I’m not as useless with all the technology as I’m with shuttles!

Lante: Response

The upload was in progress, so Jovenan had a few moments to check if the shuttle could help them contact the bridge in any way. It was extremely unlikely, as the internal and external comms were offline when she had last checked. Going through the shuttle’s computer protocols, she made an interesting discovery: one transceiver, connected to the bridge subprocessors, was online and communicating. It was the one used to monitor shuttle movement, and it had registered Crewman Lente turning on the power for the shuttle. It could only receive specific kind of text format data, but it was something. They had found a way to contact the bridge!

Jovenan: Oh God, you made it, Lante! You made it while me and Kawarda had failed!

Lante: Response

Ignoring the follow-up in order to focus on her task, she tapped her combadge once again.

Jovenan: =/\= Kawarda, we found a way to contact the bridge! =/\=

Kawarda: =/\= Response =/\=

Jovenan: =/\= No time to explain. You’ll need to send me the data you have of the Daisy’s location. Do you know how to connect a PADD with the combadge transceiver? =/\=

Kawarda: =/\= Response =/\=

Jovenan: =/\= Okay, download the data to PADD and connect them. I’ll do the same on my end. Send when ready! =/\=

She was so excited of the unexpected discovery that she was not quite too worried how she came across to the people she was working with. For now, she was entirely focused on the results. Since the PADDs were capable of being connected to a ship computer, she knew they could do that with combadges, and since combadges could send and receive voice data, other types of data shouldn't be much of a problem, either. It was usually pointless, as they would have better equipment for that, but in this unusual situation, unusual methods were needed. She stared at the PADD without breathing until it showed a loading bar, and she made a deep breath out. She had just a moment to shift her focus to her original reason to come to the shuttlebay.

Jovenan: Mister Lante, could you please help me with one thing? I need you to press this button ::points shuttle interface:: when that download is complete. It will start decoding the transmissions. I’ll need to focus on this for a minute.

Lante: Response

Leaving Lante with his new assignment as the transmission supervisor, she moved to transfer Kawarda’s data to the shuttle computer and then, format it as a tightly compressed data package. It took her some effort, but she was able send off the package to the bridge trough the functioning transceiver, as unorthodox as it was for a method of communication. The bridge would see the message as an alarm that something was happening with the shuttle she and the Crewman were occupying. That should grab their attention.

((After the moment Captain received the location data))

Jovenan turned to the Crewman, who was diligently fulfilling his orders from her. If the transmissions contained anything else they should send to the bridge, they should be doing it as soon as possible. All this new stress and excitement had made her forget the fact that they were in danger in a shuttlebay close to being decompressed.

Jovenan: Is the download complete?

Lante: Response
