The waiter arrived with their orders and Vitor took his beer and raised it both to Kali and Hallia.

Silveira: Let me take the chance to raise my glass to both of you. Two of the finest officers I had the pleasure to serve with.

Yellir: To the Excalibur! The pleasure of working with two of the most inspiring officers this side of the Delta Quadrant.

Kali joined them in raising her glass.

Nicholotti: To the lessons learned, the memories made, and a future made brighter.

Vitor nodded and clicked his beer with their glasses. Then took a long sip, drinking half of it. He smiled as he set it down and couldn't help to avoid a small burp.

Silveira: Excuse me. It's been a few years since I had one of these.

Yellir: ::Hallia raised an eyebrow:: Now, don’t tell us you’re getting soft already, Lieutenant.

Kali also rose an eyebrow towards him,but shook her head.

Nicholotti: No, I think we've just been keeping him very busy.

He shrugged, half a grin hanging in his face.

Silveira: As they say, it's the mileage not the years.

Yellir: I’ll drink to that.

Nicholotti: Indeed.

He leaned back looking at them. They should have organized a proper party, but the wheels of time sometimes weren't driven by their own desires.
He had planned to get drunk on an early shore leave. It didn't happen then.

But today most definitely. He would stay with Kali and Hallia as long as he could.
But eventually he would slip back to his quarters and finish one or two bottles he had there.

Alone.

It would be better that way. He wouldn't be bothering, nor dragging, anyone else into the sadness pit he wanted to linger for a while.

What better way to spend his last night on the Excalibur.

At least for now.

Maybe in eight or so years he would serve there again. After all, didn't someone say that History repeated itself?

His rumbling thoughts were stopped by the discreet arrival of Colt, who joined them.

Daniels: You know, you and I really have to work on our timing. One of us, usually me, is always coming or going.

Vitor shrugged like Kali. He knew part of their story so he understood them there.

Nicholotti:  It's alright as long as you're going places. I know the Artemis is going to be a force to be reckoned with.

Vitor took another sip from his mug.

Silveira: With her new CO it certainly will. ::Vitor smiled at Hallia.:: And the crew is as good as its Captain.

Yellir: Maybe sometime soon we’ll have a ship with both of you staying ::grinning.::

Colt’s drink arrived and he joined their drinking ritual.

Daniels: I've been thinking about that. I feel like Commander MacKenzie's got a full house as it is with the whole senior staff. The last thing she needs is some old Mission Specialist teaching her Officers bad habits.

Kali raised an eyebrow.

Nicholotti: You have different plans?

Yellir: Best to get the bad habits out of the way earlier in your career, i’d say.

Vito leaned back wondering if Colt would follow Kali. In a way he would be glad that happened, she wouldn’t be going off alone and had a friend nearby.
On the other hand Sil would miss Colt.

Colt shrugged and draped an arm across Kali’s shoulders in a friendly embrace.

Daniels: You lead, I follow.

Nicholotti:  If you're sure, who am I to argue?

Vitor sank back to his mug. One goodbye was enough for one day.

Yellir: Space is much smaller than we’d expect— sooner than we know it we could all be back here.

Nicholotti: I will hold on to that hope and know that you are all going out there with each other.

Silveira: I admit I would rather you also had some of us with you. But I am sure you will build another awesome crew as you did before.

Daniels:  Response?

Yellir: Till then. I suppose we’ll just have to make do in the meantime. The Excalibur, and her CO will be sorely missed.

Vitor nodded and raised his mug to Kali, just a little beer in it.

Silveira: But never forgotten.

Daniels:  Response?

Kali held up her glass and offered a thankful look to each of them.
Vitor smiled and fixed in his memory this moment.

Again life and work took them in different directions, but maybe as before they would eventually cross each other paths again.

Until then there was only one word that would describe what he was already feeling.
Translated in Federation Standart it meant missing someone. But so much was lost in translation, and only in Portuguese did that word truly come to light.

Saudade.
