Ensign Jovenan – The Astrometrics Movie Stars

The astrometric holograms turned off and the small tractor beam pulled Jovenan and Jones back on to the deck plating. Showing off the capabilities of the laboratory had been a success, but then she had turned the conversation to herself and her feelings and that had been a bit of a mood killer. But she also wanted to know the other Ensign better, so she turned the conversation to them.

Jovenan: So… Earth’s very beautiful place too. What made you leave your paradise?

Jones chuckled. Had she said something funny?

Jones: It’s a complicated story. The short version is: I had an opportunity to start over in some ways. Right some wrongs, and do some good.

Jones didn’t tell much, and she didn’t feel like pushing it further. Maybe another topic?

Jovenan: Oh. Okay. Well, you’ve been on Excalibur almost as long as I’ve been. Have you made many new friends in the crew yet?

Jones: A few, yeah. It’s still early though, so I guess I still feel a bit adrift. I’ve just been trying to get my feet under me in sickbay so I can at least provide some value to the ship that way. What about you?

Jovenan: I guess you meet a lot of new people in the sickbay, everybody comes there sometimes. Not so many in the laboratories. But Kawarda here ::looks at him for a second:: is a great person, and I’ve enjoyed your company too! ::smiles::

Jones: I really want to have a few people over for a movie night, but I don’t really know who would be receptive to that.

Jovenan: Movies? What kind of movies are we talking about?

Jones: I’m a bit of a fan of old Earth movies, especially “monster movies” that were made on such a tight budget they’re just comical. Hey, I don’t suppose you’d be interested in coming?

Jovenan: Absolutely! I have read some human literature, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen an Earth movie. Sounds exciting, when are you going to have the movie night?

Jones: Well I haven’t scheduled anything, but I could let you know. Maybe some time in the next week?

Jovenan: Sure, just let me know! But, uh… I don’t know anything about movie watching rituals. Do I need to prepare somehow, bring something?

Jones: Response

Jovenan: Okay, I’ll do that. Is that some old Earth tradition?

Jones: Response

Jovenan: Okay, sounds great!

She looked around for a bit. Kawarda was still midst working, and while her taking a break such as this one, she was still on duty and had chores to do. It was time to return to the work.

Jovenan: Thanks for visiting, but I’ll have to get back to work now. We have to get everything back to the prime condition before we head back to a new adventure!

Jones: Response

Jovenan: I look forward for the movie night! ::wave::
