(( Captain’s Ready Room, Deck 1, USS Artemis ))
Addison sat at the desk in her ready room facing away from the door so she could look out one of the office’s large windows. From her vantage point, she could see part of DS224, and Excalibur in the distance, still docked at one of the stations other ports. It had been a busy few days – the transfer orders and preparation to actually launch the recommissioned Artemis came with a lot of PADDwork, personnel issues, and maintenance issues to look over.
While she had every confidence in Teller’s work, she was also familiar with Teller’s work.
Still, she found herself thankful for a few moments of quiet to enjoy the view. Quiet, until the door chime rang. She swiveled around to see a familiar bearded Trill make his way through the door. She offered a smile.
Yalu: Hi. ::beat, mock seriously:: I mean, ::ahem:: Lieutenant Commander Yogan Yalu, Sir.
Addison’s eyes squinted in mock-play, like she was having trouble seeing
MacKenzie: You look familiar to me…
Yalu: It’s good to see you again. Seems like just yesterday we were painting horga’hns on Risa.
MacKenzie: ::sighing:: Ah, the horga’hns…
She gestured for him to have a seat. In doing so, he removed a small PADD, the contents of which contained his transfer orders.
Yalu: Thanks for having me. DS224 was a nice job for a while, but you know how it is there. After a while you just want to go somewhere else—anywhere else.
MacKenzie: A little too much routine?
Yalu: I was surprised when I heard that Starfleet was withdrawing Excalibur from the Borderlands. I’m sure you know that things aren’t exactly de-escalating around here.
She sighed, looking back over her shoulder at Excalibur. Truthfully, she was nervous about being left in the Borderlands. Not only were they without a superior officer who knew the region better than she did, they were also sending the more powerful ship to another campaign region.
MacKenzie: It’s a bit of a mess, isn’t it?
Yalu: Response
She acknowledged the transfer orders and handed the PADD back to him.
MacKenzie: All the more reason to have an experienced strategic operations officer on board. While the Luna class doesn’t typically call for an officer in this position, I think our campaign region certainly warrants it.
Yalu: Response
Addison nodded curtly.
MacKenzie; So what’s your take on the current state of the Borderlands?
It was a loaded question, which she knew, but she also knew that Yogan was well aware of how she operated and was capable of condensing the information into only that which was imminently necessary.
Yalu: Response
MacKenzie: It just gets better and better, doesn’t it? (beat) You’ll want to speak with Lieutenant Sydin. She’ll be joining us as a mission specialist, and I think it would be helpful for you two to refer the latest data.
Yalu: Response
