Alieth and Sirok were talking, quietly between one of the canapé tables and a wall, away from the passing areas of the many guests. Speaking in their native language about the guests at the party, especially those they knew.

Sirok: Your superior officer also apparently opted for an alcoholic beverage although she seems to be rather more restrained.

She moved her gaze to the red-headed medical officer and studied her closely for a couple of minutes before she replied.

Alieth: Certainly her behaviour regarding alcohol is more reasonable.:: Turning to look at her fellow vulcan::  However, if you examine her non-verbal language attentively, you will notice that she shares discomfort and nervousness with the Commander.  Moreover, you could ascertain that she feels uncomfortable, since she has deviated significantly from her usual behaviour.

She had had time to study Dr. Mackenzie in Sickbay, and the difference was more than noticeable.

Sirok nodded in agreement with Alieth's comment.

Alieth: I concur, I doubt that she chose it to select a mate.:: Her gaze shifted marginally across the same group:: Now observe carefully at the Fleet Captain.

Sirok listened to what the doctor said and observed the high-ranking officer whom he didn’t meet yet. Given his rank, he inferred that he could be the new commanding officer. He had seen him talking to Garcia at first, but it was easy to see how more officers were gathered around him.

Sirok: He looks like the host of the party. But it should not be that way, the credit for this celebration, as far as I know, belongs mainly to Admiral Turner's continued work.

The woman nodded slightly and took a second before she answered. Speaking in her native language was something that she rarely enjoyed since she left Vulcan and it deserved to be savoured in a relaxed manner.

Alieth: I concur with you. Nevertheless, he displays a genuine disposition to be acquainted with all the officers that would be under his command, a trait that characterizes a successful leader. Yet his tendency to smile excessively is mildly disruptive. An indication of a lack of restraint.

Sirok: Or as is so often the case... to hide his insecurity?

Alieth: Oh, of course. He is an emotional individual. Insecurity is an expected trait.

Sirok: I think Lieutenant Garcia uses informality in the same way. He is an efficient officer, though, so maybe it works for him. :: His work at Thunder had seemed appropriate to Sirok, more so given the situation.::

Alieth bowed her head briefly so the hood dimmed her features once more. That made the slight purse of her lips unnoticeable.

Alieth: I have only met him in sickbay, although he is not a particularly troublesome patient, he is certainly a whingeing human.

The doctor turned to the engineer to stress the importance of her following words.

Alieth: I think he almost shed tears in front of me... and afterwards he consumed an unusual amount of sugared food to soothe that emotional outburst

Sirok: You will know about this in more depth, but it is curious how some humans are not able to endure tremendously simple medical procedures. But then they can face dangers by putting aside all their fears. Could it be because of how their brain hormones work in the face of immeasurable danger?

Alieth: Certainly the hormonal component is important, but there are more variables that affect what they call 'courage'. That is why humans who are considered brave among their peers often cower when confronted with a standard medical procedure. To the point of doing everything possible to avoid it.

Sirok: Strange, a medical exam should give them certainty of a possible problem. Which should be less scary than not knowing.

Alieth: I agree, however I have been informed that, for example, dealing with Major Parker in the infirmary may require coercion and the use of violence. Perhaps it is a symbol of a genetic involution.

Sirok: It would correspond to his way of entering the party and whether it is true that he commissioned the modifications on the Thunder to his way of thinking about defensive engineering.

The doctor nodded steadily and turned her dark eyes to the table where the Marine Leader sat. Just then Parker's booming voice rang out in the hall, beckoning the XO's attention with the fact that he had a high-grade alcoholic beverage at his disposal

Alieth: If his ideas regarding engineering are as primitive as his manners, you must have found your work on the Thunder to be precarious, to say the least.

Sirok: I can only say that the control of the energy consumption of that ship must be much more meticulous than is usually necessary. ::He looked at the admiral again :: Nevertheless, we should admit that he is offering the proper treatment to Admiral Turner, regarding the achievement she has accomplished.

Alieth: He is certainly displaying a high degree of loyalty towards her.

Alieth stared at the ballroom in search of the Admiral. She found her holding a glass elegantly near where Parker sat.

Alieth: Rear Admiral Turner is acting as the perfect host, yet she cannot conceal the sadness written on her face. However, this should be a joyful celebration for her. She has fulfilled her goal.

Sirok nodded at Alieth's claim, then sipped his juice. At that moment, Lieutenant Greaves appeared beside them.

Greaves:  Whoa whoa, don’t get too crazy now you party animals. ::Wes joked as he approached::.
