((Shorefront Seafood Shack, Bokitu City, Bolarus IX))
As they waited for their meals to arrive, the conversation between Drex and Falt settled into an easy, unforced rhythm. What had begun as a simple exchange over drinks gradually shifted into something more personal: memories of Denali, shared moments outdoors, and the quiet acknowledgment of paths that had led them both into command.
The Denobulan found himself enjoying the exchange, which allowed him to learn a little more about the man behind the rank.
Drex: Well... ::He paused, a small, easy smile forming.:: I remember your parents coming to Denali for your promotion.::A brief beat.::Do they live on Earth? Do you manage to see them often?
Falt: My parents? Would you believe my Mother is still on Denali, taking all the vacations she's never had at once! My father is out working somewhere, even I never quiet know where he is at any given moment.
Drex: I recall your mother being a botanist, or something similar. She was working with Alora on something before our transfer, though I never quite learned the details. ::A brief pause.:: I do not know much about your father. Is he in Starfleet?
Falt: He designs and builds independent space stations, and since he doesn't work for the Federation he gets for lots species all over the quadrant. He likes it that way, more work and more variety than he ever would have got doing the same work in Starfleet.
Drex: A space architect. ::The words came with a quiet note of genuine interest, his attention sharpening noticeably.:: Designing for multiple species must require a very different approach. ::Counting lightly on his fingers.:: Different environments, different needs, even different ideas of what structure means. ::A brief pause, his smile widening.::I would like to speak with him one day.
Falt: What about your family? You mentioned your parents already, but if I remember from your file you have a twin sister? Do you see her often?
Drex: You remember correctly. ::He nodded:: I’ve been on Denobula after my promotion. I try to see them whenever shore leave allows.
Before the conversation could settle further, the greeter returned with their meals, placing the dishes down with practiced care. The warm scent of freshly prepared food rose immediately between them, cutting gently through the lingering conversation and shifting the atmosphere at the table.
Drex’s attention shifted immediately from conversation to the food in front of him. The dish was simple, a carefully arranged selection of seafood and local vegetables. He took a moment to observe it.
Drex: ::A faint, approving nod followed as he reached for his utensils.:: This looks considerably better than anything I would have risked ordering blindly.::He glanced up briefly, tone light but steady.:: I am starting to understand why your father recommended this place.
Falt: Response
The Denobulan began eating slowly, more attentive now to the meal than the room around them.
Drex: So... besides outdoor activities, what do you like to do in your free time? ::A slight shrug.:: Reading, maybe? Or cooking? Or do you play an instrument?
Falt: Response
Drex: That sounds interesting. Do you actually dedicate much time to it?
